I think you should go to the doctor and get it checked out. It maybe a pulled muscle or the starting of a chest infection - better to be careful. Take good care TAD xx

Could be pleurisy - very painful when you take a breath.

Hi Kay, it could be anything - its possible you've pulled an intercostal muscle which can be agony. Lung tissue doesn't have nerve endings though the lining of the lungs do, which is why pleurisy is so painful. As Tad says, you shouldn't take any risk and should get in touch with your GP asap. Best wishes.

Please do get it checked out,as soon as you can, don't wait for it to get worse!

There's a few different things it could be,no good guessing, you must get it checked out,let us know how you go,take care, love Wendells xxx

Have you considered that it might be trapped wind/ I know this sounds stupid but I often get very bad wind in my chest that mimics a heart attack in intensity. And wind can get trapped just anywhere in the body. Cheers.

This is always my main symptom if I have an exacerbation starting.

If you don't have rescue medication you can start then I would suggest you go and see your GP.

If it seems to be centred around the outside of your lung and especially to the outside edge, left or right sides; a very sharp and agonising pain when you breathe in, it could be pleurisy (an infection of the "Pleura": the outer lining of your lungs that protects them from contact with the ribcage). I've had this nasty infection just twice in my life - once quite mildly, and once with the most evil of pains imaginable..! Confirmation by your GP, antibiotics and complete bedrest are the cure which in my case took only a day or two.
