I got this feeling as if my ribs and something else had crossed over each other. Lasts for a minute or so and makes me gasp. Just wondering if it is my ribs and my long lungs or something else. I have had it now on and off for about 5 years.

I get something like this too. Only when I bend, it feels as though the muscles between my ribs go into a kind of spasm, its not very nice but only lasts around a minute.
I've noticed it over the last 12 months and it always catches me unawares as its not consistent. When one of these spasm things strikes I can only breath shallow until it passes.
Tony. x
I have the exact same symptoms. What is it??
I get this too Suzy6. Don't know the cause.
Hi Suzy6.I was advised to exhale before bending over to decompress the lungs to help make them a bit more flexible.Hope it helps.Bengunn.xxx.
Hi Suzy, yes I can understand that, same happens to me sometimes, will try Bengunns advice, makes sense doesn't it! xxx,
Hi Wendells I will try it too. Good luck.
I used to get this a lot but I find that Body Control Pilates has helped a great deal. I do it at least twice a week and sometimes on my own at home. My whole posture is better and it helps my breathing too. You do need to be taught how to do it properly first. I hope it helps for you. Xx
Hi I will try to improve my posture and give Pilates a thought thanks.
Sounds to me like you might have a hernia, if it's a twisting up of muscles that is intensely painful but only lasts a minute or two. This happens to me if I lean at an odd angle to pick something up. I've always thought of it as a hernia and something you just ignore but maybe I'm wrong.
Sounds like similar Argana I will try and ask my Doctor next time I go but sometimes she isn't all that helpful.
Yes ,Suzy I to get problems with my chest ribs, going into spasm, painful ribs, as though they are in the way, and very tender, not nice at all,
I get this quite often. I reckon - rightly or wrongly - that it is cramp. I breathe deeply as I straighten and I can feel it rippling back into place. Not very pleasant and it frequently happens when I put on my socks or tie my laces. I try to breath normally but frequently find I hold my breath when doing bending tasks and end up feeling quite panicky and gasping for breath.
I get something similar,I have two quite pronounced hernia.I think it is something folding in the wrong place. It can be quite painful. If you don,t have a diagnosed hernia get it checked with gp.D.
I get this pain too, just as you described, I have had it on and off for 20 years, my Dad also sufferred with it, although I have no idea what causes it. Did wonder if it was trapped wind behind the lung.
Anna xx
if its a hiatus hernia, its where the stomach goes up through the diaphragm, which can interfere with breathing. Keep an eye on it just in case.
Thank you all for your replies. Will have a talk to my Doctor next time I go. Have a good day, take care xx
Its the floating rib at the bottom it can sometimes cross over the rib above.
I think it's because we ... are unfit!
I am currently doing these exercises. They are part of Chinese Traditional Medicine. They have a weird name; it's called 8 pieces of brocade ( baduanjin - I'm only copying!!!).

there are books of the same ilk on Amazon. I've got a book that my mum bought and it's in French!!! But I've started the exercises again. you have to do this gently, but it will work and make your body more flexible. Hope it helps. It does for me!
