My consultant has agreed I need to be on steroids long(ish)term.First 6 months of the year down to only10mg daily,any one else done this?

Hi FarmerD, I think there are quite a few people on here who take long term steroids. There was a discussion about it only a day or two ago. You might be able to find it.

Been on steroids from 120 mg to lowest 10mg for over ten years been sitting on twenty for over nine months, if helping and doing job why stop, yr consultant will know when to reduce and with reasons s I would just ask. X take care of yourself don't put yourself in vulnerable positions due to poor immune system x

Hubby has been taking 10mg for about 2 years now, not sure I can answer whether it helps as he also takes an antibiotic 3 times a week. The biggest thing we have noticed is the skin on his arms in particular being very thin and bruising easily, in fact we have to attend the minor injuries unit this morning as he knocked his arm and caused an open wound which every time I change the dressing it is hard to stop it bleeding.

I had asked something very similar just a day ago. I was told it is a fairly common practice to stay on the steroids long term, as in years. There are some bad side effects, but those are the lesser of the two evils when deciding if you want to breathe or not. I've been trying to taper down to 10 mg., but every time I get down under 20 mg I start getting the tight chest and wheeze back. I also found out that you can taper down in smaller amounts at a time, like 5 mg so I might try that in a bit. Good luck, you're not alone
