My husband spends most of the morning... - Lung Conditions C...
My husband spends most of the morning coughing then is so breathless they say he has emphsima yet his ox test was not too bad what help.
can you give the members a little more info,as if just given ventolin and breathless doesn't seem right, and as hubby had a scan to determine this, and you will both need the flu and pneumonia jabs, and he must stop the fags if he.s a smoker,do you know hubbys reading on the spimetry test for copd, xxxthere are different stages,
Doesn't sound quite right that he should be that bad and only have a Ventolin.
Does he use a spacer to administer the Ventolin? Using one gets more of the medication to airways also, there is the right technique to use too.
Would suggest ring BLF tomorrow after 10am 03000 030 555 for advice
agreed peeg,xxx
Hmm he needs something else as well as a ventolin inhaler
my thinking to,what stage hubby at,xxxwas it confirmed at the hospital or gps practise,as ventolin givin at mild stage but again at mild your ok,could have infection or other problems, not much info really,
Hi Tabatha1, Being breathless and having low oxygen saturation do not necessarily go hand in hand. My sats are always pretty good, even at my most breathless. I am at th e very severe stage. It may be that your hubby is known as a retainer (which I am). If you put oxygen retention in the box at the top right hand corner of the page you will probably find some posts of interest. The best people to ask are your consultant/gp. Andu
Morning Tabatha, There is lots of help available. My husband has severe COPD for over ten years and it was only last year that he was given oxygen for walking, his oxygen levels until then had been fine. Firstly I would advise you ring the BLF helpline (click on the red balloon) - they will be able to give you practical advise and have leaflets that have lots of information. Please go back to the doctors - my husband takes two inhalers and they make all the difference to his breathing. And keep asking and asking until he has medication that helps. You may find there is a specialist respiratory team in your area who the doctor can refer you to. BUT don't let him suffer, he has a chronic illness but there is a variety of medication available now which can improve his quality of life. Take care, good luck TAD xxx
Thank you for all the advice he is going to the respiratory nurse in the morning, he does not cough anything up but it lasts for most of the morning and is unable to bend over at all as he can not get his breath I shall go with him to try and push for more help and info
Does he stop breathing when doing his shoes up that could be his diaphragm. If he went swimming and was out of breath that could be an indicator of the same. I process O2 well but do not draw enough in when I need it. When they test me after I have sat down got my breath and upright it shows okay. If I lie down it drops a further 12.5% from 57% lung function when upright.
I am afraid I was not one to tell the doc how bad I felt for a long time. Trouble was once I needed help I could not get the doctors support when I needed it?
Has your hubby seen the Pulmonary Team. they will assess what's wrong with him and direct as to the best course of action to take.
Does he cough with mucus. Then there are some exercises to do to cough up and free himself from a lot more coughing.
ACBT = Active Cycle of Breathing Technique is one good help.
