How much should we avoid sunshine while on Doxycycline antibiotic?
Pete takes Doxy now as a change from Azith and he has to be careful in the sunshine anyway. I think using a good sun block and taking care generally should be ok but check with your GP or online if really unsure. Hope you are ok juliekkay. Take care xxxx
I took doxycyline as an antimalarial medicine 100mg daily for 8 weeks whilst holidaying in Goa. Used factor 30 ultrasun, spent 8 hours a day in the sun with no ill effects. Hope this helps Julie. Take care. Lucy
I have only had it at small dose replacing amoxy how much care at high dose sorry only nothing special at 250mg.
been on it solidly for a couple of years. Im fine if I don't over do it! doctor told me its prescribed in tropical countries without the sun warning. Only time I burnt badly with it was sitting in a car where the sun was magnified through the windscreen
It just makes your skin a little more sensitive to the sun. If you use your usual sunscreen you will be fine. I have taken them whilst on holiday abroad and had no problems.

Thankyou so much evryone for great advice from your personal experience. xxx
Great question juliekay as I'm off to Florida (suprise trip from my son and daughter) on sat and I started doxy beginning of February after spending two weeks in RBH on IV abs. A member of prof Wilson's team told me if I go anywhere hot I can actually stop taking them whilst there if I developed a rash. He said to ensure I wore high factor sunscreen. It's been very helpful reading all the replays to your question. I feel more comfortable now and less worried! Good luck Juliekay. Doxy seems to be working well for me, hope it's good for you too. Kissi xx
Hi Juliekay
You must be living on a different planet than the rest of us. Do tell where you live so we can all get the abundance of sun that your are experiencing! Enjoy it as it may disappear sooner than you think!
Stay well
