Interesting front-page article in today's New York Times about the pros and cons of e-cigarettes. It discusses the UK too.

Extremely interesting. My other half is currently using these to stop smoking, even though I have argued it does not stop the addiction as it continues to feed it. I will show him the article. Many thanks for posting.

I Have One and think that since I started to use it My Smoking Habit has Halved if not More ,Also Would Like to make a BIG POINT about the E-cig. It ONLY contains Nicotine nothing else, No Tar none of the Bad things that an ordinary Cigarette has , since starting using Mine have found that A my cough has reduced a bit , B Gunk no longer bother's me at night and C find that I don't need to have a cigarette as often NOW , So think that the article referred to in this POST is a Start of Panic by Tobacco companies to put a stop to them as they are hurting there income , AS to the UK Next thing we hear from Westminster will be an added tax on those that use them ( as they are losing out on revenue)

It will be a good day when the under eighteens are stopped from buying e cigarettes I am not convinced by any argument claiming safe use. Without any regulation its not known what these things contain for a certainty.

Just goes to show how in touch the Govt, is with the people???

The E cig's are freely advertised in ALL Shops even the Big Supermarket chains, and Yes they don't have an age restriction so Kids can Bye them if they want.

I did do some research into them before I got one, the only thing in them is Nicotine, the smoke that appears in (some is vapour) there is NO smell no ash and undetectable from a kiss , where as what I used to smoke was God's know what?? Benzines, tar, Carbon dioxide you name it

Hi drd it was never bought out as an aid for not smoking, until somebody is able to prove anything damaging it is no worse than any other nicotine replacement aids which all contain nicotine my inhalator cartridges have 15mg of nicotine in each cartridge. Are people against it because of its looks? Surely its courses for horses, providing people arnt damaging themselves. If the Ecig helps people to eventually stop, like using patches, chewing gum etc etc this is a good thing is it not?Just my opinion. :) Janexx

As far as the nicotine content in e-cigarettes it is only the same as contained in NRT patches, gum, sweets etc. It is the smoke and the other chemicals in cigarettes that cause the lung damage because it is smoke.

They are available without nicotine. I started with 0% nicotine for many months but didn't like the taste so changed to 1.2% nicotine. Totally my choice but it showed that I'm more addicted to the smoking habit than nicotine! It is also my choice to continue 'smoking' an e-cigarette as I enjoy doing so.

To One and ALL , the recent answers really say it all .

If YOU are addicted to nicotine, get an e-cig , addiction to the other GUNK that is in a Normal cigarette ????never been answered , but what are you shown if you smoke by Health Nurse's ect, Tar from the lungs, not included in nicotine patches, e-cigs or other replacement products available .

Thanks again people David
