Becraftygirl: You were wise to talk about this. I have bronchiectasis, COPD, asthma have dealt with many chest infections. Have you voiced your worries to the GP, respiratory nurse. You could do with a sputum check, if you haven't had it already You can have a rescue pack, steroids if necessary. A possible referral to your consultant to have available tests. It can become manageable, believe me. Toss in the inevitable NO smoking, if you are!! All the best.
Im just the same cant understand y im getting so many chest infections , imm starting to put it down to alkergies and imitations on the lung which are sparking infections off xxxx
My consultant has reduced my steroids after repeated infections, he says that with repeated use they lower the immune system and leave us open to every infection. I still managed to pick up a new one, but there was a longer gap between them.
Symptoms like yours require a word with the doc to ensure that you a using the correct anti biotic. Get a sample jar and a sample of sputum and put it on his desk, they cant ignore that.
Try taking 500 or 1000 mg of vitamin C every day - chewable 1000 mg works for me. You can't overdose as the body gets rid of it!!

becraftygirl. I agree fully with pergola. The nurses team is the best, in my opinion, because they "really" know what's up and can advise you. A consultant knows the symptoms and drugs and can do tests to show up what's going on, He is the "scientific" person, but for how to cope with the illness the pulmonary nurse is the best! Ask to be referred to her. Best of luck.
In the meantime, you could do some Active Cycle of Breathing Technique to get rid of the excess mucus. Here's a video from You Tube:
