I saw an article by Professor Malcolm Maden of the Medical Research Centre for Development Neurobiology at King's College who said his team holds out great hope for treatment for emphysema. Said retinoic acid worked on tissue cells in the lungs. I live in US hiw can I get info?

Assume you are referring to this article:

It would have to be a well monitored dose of vit A to ensure other health problems don't result. Vitamin A is one of the vitamins that can cause other serious problems if we overdose on it by taking supplements:
Don't forget to scroll down the page (link below) for "Health Risks from excessive vitamin A":
I have not seen that article before Blakey so thank you very much for posting it.
Have you heard any more about this research? It does sound promising
The article says its only been tested on mice at the moment, not on humans, I would think its a long way off getting to that stage, then it will be a long way off for all the trials on humans, no doubt we will hear about those when human trial subjects are needed, then of course it has to go through the EU body for approval. I think we are talking years. But who knows I could be wrong
The article I'm speaking of was testubg done in 1997 initially. I think, by two doctors (The Massaros) at Georgetown University. Dr. Malcolm Madan came to the same conclusion and seems that second trials are going on now in UK. 17 years difference don't make sense ti me????
It doesn't make sense does it, since the article above on the daily mail page is dated 14 Jan 2014 and so far only testing on mice. Perhaps the one you saw done in 1997 was a different research trial, testube is very different to mice lungs.. Maybe approach the Georgetown University if you know where that is.
Thanks Blakey, you are always such a great source of info for me, I do appreciate it..thanks again
nhlbi.nih.gov/news/press-re... This is the first article from Massaros. Have contacted them but have not heard back yet. Georgetown Univ, is in US - Washington,DC
This on lab rats, perhaps it was shelved for a period in US. Do post if Georgetown Uni has progressed the trials further. Tks
this google search page, shows a pdf document where human trials are indicated, dated Aug 2013 through cvm.msu:

Would you think it would be a good idea to take a Vit A supplement anyway,? as long as its just a normal dose
No I wouldn't recommend it. Read up on risks. Normal amounts easily obtAined through food. A multi vit contains added A vit, so additional supplementation may not be safe. My own view is any one undergoing vitamin A supplementation should only be doing so under the guidance of a medical professional.

Wow thanks again Blakey for such a thoughtful, informed and thorough reply
Liver is an excellent source of Vit A as are colourful vegetables like red, yellow, orange peppers, carrots & spinach (which may be why Popeye swore by it) these veg are high in Beta Carotene the precursor to Vit A.
RDA is 800ug with the safe upper limit being 1500ug according to: Angela Dowden's Pocket Guide to Vitamins
Keep in mind that this is an old trial (2002) and that it did not result in the 're growing' of alveoli.
Once tested on lab rats, the human clinicals happen pretty fast, and they go through stages also. I asked my pulmonologist about clinical trials and the stages they go throug regarding a cure for pulmonary hypertension. As it turned out was published, when I saw the article and by the time I asked, it was all ready in stage 1 clinical trials on humans at the university medical center here. I asked to be a part of them. I"m hoping to begin in 2 months and hope that I don't get the placebo.
