Is anyone out there who feels like I do. I'm of a age where you gave cartons of cigarettes as Christmas presents. The cartons had Christmas decor.

Reading I should get a support group.. Feeling very depressed about my COPD. It seems to be my fault and little I can do about it. accept
Hello 5930 I was of that era, OK maybe it was our own fault but try to cheer up there are lots of people on here at different stages of this trying to help each other. Have a word with your Doctor or Practice Nurse tell them how depressed and unhappy you feel. Glad you came on here it is a lovely place. I felt so isolated depressed and as if my world had fallen apart when I was told. Now I feel alive again thanks to the wonderful people on here. Ok I still get my depressed unhappy days but I have got my fight back. Keep posting. xx
5930... I saw a you tube video on COPD and the first thing the doctor on it said. gave me a lot of confidence for the future
He said. COPD is a condition, there are many conditions that people have , like Diabetes, MS, ( he named a few more but I cannot remember them ) They are life long conditions, but if you manage them properly and do all you can to delay the decline in your condition, you can live longer and productive lives.
He is right. I have had brochiectasis since a baby. and I am now VERY old...OK my condition is now at the severe stage, but I do all I can to delay the decline in my condition, and I have lived a long, full & active life...and fully intend to live a lot longer, even if its not so active, but I am very happy
Read the threads on here about how to manage your illness, what you can do for yourself
If you still feel very depressed , then you may need medical help with your depression.
COPD is NOT a death sentence 5930, you will always have COPD and it will get worse , but you can do SO MUCH to slow that decline, and still live a long time
Love Sohara
Hi 5930, sorry you feel so down, we all get days like that but if you are getting them frequent then you do need medical help. COPD is a long term chronic illness but like many others it can be controlled to lead a normalish life style although maybe at a slower pace. Besides drugs there are specially designed exercises to improve your lung function. This site is also here twenty four hours a day to help people just like yourself to find new ways to cope with your illness plus tips on solving problems as they arise so keep coming back if you need support.
Sorry to hear you are feeling depressed. I am sorry to tell you but this is all part of accepting your condition. There are times when you can do more and othertimes when it is not possible. all you can do is take each day as it comes and make the most of it. Exercise classes do help. Where ever possible think about what you can do and enjoy and concentrate on them. good luck and try and get out and about. best wishes Irene
I will try to take your advice and take each day as it comes. Some days are so much worse than others and i don't know why. I will try to remember that better days are possible.
Thank you for your suport
What Medications are you on for your breathing? That can play a part in the way you are feeling.
Dear Winterdays,
I am taking Advair twice a day and Spiriva once a day. Guess I am pretty lucky I can pay for these medications. This is selfish, but I went without to save enough money not to be a burden to my family when I retired, now I feel I should have enjoyed it while I could. This COPD is like knock, knock, you are dead.
