As lots of other people we have been buying stuff and arranging Christmas day for a while now. My daughter who is a lone parent was coming for Dinner, cooked by me (my grandson going to his dads this year), then she was arranging a buffet at our house for the rest of the family 8 of us on Boxing day. That was until this morning when she phoned to say she has tonsillitis poor thing feel very sorry for her being on her own. :-(

Hubby and I have never been on our own for Christmas day in 24 years so that is something new for us, we are postponing Boxing day buffet until daughter is better, and then a great day will be had by all.

I have had tonsillitis in the past, and it can really drag you down. Hope daughter is a lot better soon. How far away is your daughter? Christmas Day on your own, will be a new experience, and what you make of it, I think. It hasn't happened to us for years, so enjoy yourselves. You will be free to please yourselves and choose what you do. And the Buffet wont run away, it will be there waiting. xx

She is only about 15 minutes away and I offered to take her a dinner round but she said no she would not be able to eat it. Unfortunately she gets tonsillitis quite often so knows she needs to rest up. We will enjoy our day but will be thinking of her on her own.

The turkey crown is out of the freezer and this afternoon we will be preparing the veg and sausage wrapped in bacon ready for tomorrow whilst listening to Christmas carols.

What bad luck Polly, your poor daughter,it can be very nasty, tonsillitis.Hopefully she'll be better soon, you can enjoy a quiet time, doing what you want!

You will have your big reunion soon enough,& let's face it,it's happy days when the family is all together, doesn't have to be the 25 th! Enjoy the day, love Wendells xxx

Poor girl, hope she gets well very soon. Mind you, a Christmas Day, just the two of us....... peace, quiet, box of chocs, bottle of wine, Xmas day telly, feet up, cat nap in chair........ I could do that! X

Polly, I hope your daughter is better very soon. I can remember only once being ill at Christmas. Luckily our daughter was still at home so my husband and her ended up doing the cooking etc.

It will be weird just the two of you for Christmas. This has only happened to us once. The last few years our daughter, her partner and their two little ones (now 3yr old twins) have been here with us.

This year we are going to their house for the day. First time ever not been in own home for Christmas.

Going to an early Christmas Eve Mass (6pm) then will rest this evening in preparation for a busy but fun day tomorrow.

Wishing everyone a very Happy Christmas.
