PLAIN cigarette packets in Australia have not led to a fall in smoking rates but have boosted an illicit trade in tobacco, new research reveals.
The study by leading auditors KPMG raises doubts about the impact a similar ban in Britain may have on smoking rates. . . .
It reveals the country’s illegal tobacco market has risen to a record 13 per cent over the past year, at a cost to the government in lost tax of £556million (A$1billion). It also concluded consumption of tobacco has not decreased, the first time since 2009 there has not been a decline. . . .
quote KPMG was hired by three major cigarette manufacturers – British American Tobacco Australia, Imperial Tobacco Australia and Philip Morris – to assess the impact in Australia a year on. quote
independent research not tobacco lobby threats of lost revenue
that's good news but whether it makes a difference remains to be seen
I smoke because I want to a nanny state wont take my freedom away its not illegal smoking do what they like with the box its ciggies not the box I smoke.
Niccolo I wish I could find the words to make you rethink your decision to smoke. Of course you are free to do so.it is after all your life, and you are free and able to do whatever you like.
But the reason I should think, that you are on this site, is because you have some breathing issues....No one can ever undo the damage that you or any of the others on this site have already done to our lungs, but we can all hope to slow down the progression along the path
I have severe COPD( stage 3), it has been severe for several years now, but then I found that there were things that I could do to slow down ( and even back track a little) the progression to stage 4 . I do everything I can to slow that progression Niccolo, even exercising (which I have never liked doing)
and it does all seem to be working, so hopefully I will stay at stage 3 for more years than I would have done
Smoking will not only make your progression to getting worse faster, you will eventually have to stop, ( when you get to having to have oxygen stage) if you have to stop then, why not now?
Fight it Nicolo, fight the decline in your lungs, make them as good as you can NOW
Its up to you...it is your choice
