in reply to

:) I have satisfying image of knocking drink over them ;)

I am saying I don't go anywhere near anyone who may be infected with a cold or flu virus as it puts my lung health at high risk for a lung infection which could lead to further lung damage and a deterioration in my condition. Therefore I am not happy about anyone entering my home or being in the same room with someone who may be infected. This would be one of my special requirements should I have to go face to face with anyone for an assessment.

Hi Daz thanks for sharing the link, I shall read later, at the moment I am in midst of retackling atos for ESA award again.

Stitch on the ESA50 form I am doing at the moment they say 50 metres is about the length of 5 double decker buses or twice the length of an average swimming pool. Usually they say walking on the flat. Therefore I am thinking 20 metres would be less than a average swimming pool length and around the length of 2 double decker buses.

Don't get rid of your car Stitch, you would become more house bound if you did I think. Its essential if you need to go out in bad weather. Lungs couldn't tolerate negotiating winter months without it I think.

The forms are definitely not designed with lung patients in mind that is for sure. We have to spell it out every time in the hope that they get an inkling of what our situation is.

I agree Daz, but disgrace is a very polite way of putting it, well done for keeping your cool ;)

Keep on appealing Daz. After this 2nd episode with atos I am writing a letter of complaint to my MP about the way chronically ill people are made to repeatedly go through this kind of stress. Probably we need a standard letter / email for everyone to send to their MP and maybe eventually the voice will be become so big that it will affect a change.

I'm not even going to attempt PIP, its bad enough doing the ESA form.

Good luck to every one who is having to keep on going through this atos procedure.

Best wishes BC

As if we don't have enough worries the thought of losing my car would leave me house bound and have to use taxis when I need to go anywhere at a cost I can't afford,I worked for thirty five year's and now have IPF it's a stab in the back from this government who just don't care.

They use this for the blue badge too dont they - I already failed to get this once and now I cant see any chance - It depends on the day or even the hour really doesnt it - sometimes I fail at walking up the stairs other days it is a breeze. This measurement would be about the distance to the village hall - twice the distance to the pub!!!! No I stand no chance. I have had to give up my car - couldnt afford to keep it running - every time I take a taxi (usually for a doctor appt it costs me over £20. Who on earth comes up with these measurements.

in reply toBealings48

I'm still waiting on my renewal for blue badge too, that is holding up the bus pass renewal application. You have to tell as on your worst days Bealings48 especially how it affects us during the winter months when things are so much more difficult.

I know I used to be a social worker and apply for all these things for other people - always telling them what the worst day was - They still turned me down - perhaps I should get myself a social worker !!!!!!

in reply toBealings48

Hi even thsts al changed .. Tryed myself not like thay was to busy hiding .. Did tell them bunch of hiding B's and left in discust and thay talk about adult health and wellbeing

in reply toBealings48

oh my Bealings48, that just makes you think it depends on the character of the person doing the assessing whether you get awarded or not, instead of the needs of the applicant.

hi Can you tell me were you read this hot of the press article

Thanks Daz for the update link. It's typical of governments approach to benefits for the less able. So now the walking lengths are definately to be the lower new 20meters, to spite of all the disabled campaigning. Specific lengths have always been a bone of contention, as it is not supposed to be whether you can walk a certain distance or not. Rather whether you can walk normally as abled bodied do, independently , without help or aids. If this PIP is a personal independence payment why are they making it more difficult by taking away mobility payments that help our independence? Some of us can't even afford taxis without our mobility payments, and being stuck in the house sreven days a week is not my idea of independence or inclusion in the community.

in reply tokatieoxo60

Hi katieoxo60 cant agree more .. is a disgrace but with likes of BBC and C5 is there any wonder .. Was reading about how a quack refused to give lung suffer antibiotics and oxegen unless she stoped smoking .. a dont think i could of been as carm .. Do thay tell crack heads am not giving you any meds or needle

Daz I know how you feel I can not walk any distance without being in pain or discomfort. I'm trying to get ESA sorted I went to court in February told I was fit for work went to claim JSA was told by job centre to put in fresh claim for ESA and claim for COPD which I had not done before. I was told my claim had gone to tribunal when I asked why could a fresh claim go to tribunal they said they would get my claim back and it will continue as a fresh claim. I looked at the link to the face book do have a email address for this I don't go on face book.

thanks Daz for sharing this predictable news. I didn't notice BLF amongst the list of organisations, hopefully they were there. CF were quite rightly represented. Difficult and unfair times for the vulnerable - what an easy target. :-(

Yes agree .. Even john major is disgusted .. How long can one stay dignified ..

"Comparisons were made to other Government policies which use 50 metres as

a base distance. The Government’s accessibility requirements in Building

Regulations (January 2013) specify that the distance between a disabled

parking space and the entrance of a building should be no greater than 50

metres"

Now if that is not a contradiction I do not know what is?

I have got though about 25% of it so far but my head hurts today. This is a cost saving exercise and nothing more. I have a stick but have been told not to use it as it affects my arthritis in my neck shoulder and spine. I have been told that a wheelchair would be to painful for me to use unless it was an electric one. However without a mobility component I could not afford one! The long and the short of what I have read and they have suggested at is even though 50 metres is used for many other government directives, they can make whatever changes they want for the purpose of a revised policy of change to the disability reforms.

On a really good day I may be able to walk 50 metres or more, but with pain and discomfort. The following day I would not even consider leaving the house. I take my mother 92 to the shops and we have a snack on Saturdays I have a job keeping up with her. That evening I am tired and in pain and dreading the upcoming winter. Once it hits 3c I am gasping for breath in 3 steps.

One of the interesting things I did notice was the way they defined the responses from there consultation? they say how many responses they had individual and groups. Groups could be representing 1000's of people but are counted as 1! Responses that were sent as a template were also grouped as a campaign. So templates are not the way forward even though most MP's will have a template response to some issues.

They state that there was not a great response even though it was on the Gov Website? No consideration was taken for those unable to access the internet due to disability or any of the many reasons all of us are not on the WWW.

Once my head is back to absorb this excuse of a paper of reason I will continue my rant! Sorry
