Ok, so I'm 17 years of age and have a terrible cough which has lasted for the past 2 weeks. I started off with a cold but that seems to have faded now but my cough appears to be getting worse and worse as time goes on, I am worried because of adverts I see on tv and things people tell me. I am a smoker and have been since I was 11, which isn't good to be fair. Should I be concerned about this cough? It makes it hard for me to sleep at night, I keep getting shortness of breath and just generally not feeling too well. Has anyone else had this cough? And should I be panicking or am I just being paranoid?

I'm worried and scared.
I think what you should be doing gmc1996 is going back to see your doctor so he can check things out for you, just tell the doctor what you have said here, about the shortness of breath and cough which seems to be getting worse keeping you awake at night etc.
Its generally advised if you have a cough for longer than 3 weeks you should see your doctor.
Good luck

gmc1996, welcome your priority is to see your GP a.s.a.p.anyone having a cough for two weeks would do the same, just by listening to your chest he would know what is wrong and depending what he hears he may send you for chest x-rays. and now would be a very good time to stop smoking it would even benefit you now health wise, good luck with the GP let us know how you get on we are here 24/7 . My guess is you are being paranoid. Go and have a check up at the Doctor - you may have a chest infection and need a course of antibiotics. STOP SMOKING you only need to read some of the posts on here. You need to stop - it will save you fortunes and it will save your future health. Take care, good luck TAD xx
GMC1996
Hiya sweetheart. It's a bit scary isn't it. What you have probably got is a chest infection. The others have given you good advice about seeing your doctor. A course of antibiotics will soon put you right. When you are seventeen you think you will live for ever. We all did. But most of us smoked for too long and now we all struggle to breathe. Give the cigarettes up if you can. If you need any more information or advice just pop back anytime.
Love from Bobby xx
Hello GMC 1996, you may be being paranoid or you may not.
For one so young you should be getting better from a cold n cough not worse n worse.
You really must see your GP and don't let them fob you off. Can you get your mum or dad to go with you?
Perhaps you've got a lung infection that needs antibiotics, perhaps you've got asthma or perhaps it's a virus. Either way you must see the doc.
Also, would you PLEASE be good to yourself and stop smoking as soon as you can.
BTW, you could ring the helpline: 03000 030 555, costs same as a local call, click on the red balloon for info
Take care now xxx
