May pay to check with your doctor to see if willing to prescribe you with the neb meds, its not something recommended for everyone.

Yes Blakey thanks will do, perhaps you can help me with what are saline nebs, which I have heard mentioned on here, and what are they used for please,

The neb needs water to work and the safest way is either saline or sterile water. The come in very small, plastic phials, that you break the neck off and pour in. My GP was very reluctant to even prescribe these to me due to the cost. The water costs more than the drugs. The general rule now seems to be you will only ever get ventolin or any other drug at a clinic or hospital because there have been too many issues in the past. If you struggle to get a prescription, you can buy the water off e-bay or else cadge some off another user. My Respiritor nurse put the pressure on the GP for me. I told her I couldn't get the water and so I was boiling the kettle and allowing the water to cool so I could use my neb.

Thank you for that Brian, sorry to be thick, That's to loosen the mucus?

hi Brian

I have been on a nebuliser for many years and would not recommend it unless it is absolutely necessary. the problem with it is that overtime the drugs become less effective so if one day you get a really serious infection such as pneumonia the first option of treatment is not available to you as you are on it already! It is also a drag to have to have it with you all the time. the saline nebules can be purchased over the counter but are quite expensive. they are good at loosening the mucus but there are other drugs that can be used that are not delivered via a nebuliser.

If your airway is fixed it will only make a small amount of difference anyway .It sounds to me like you need to talk to your doctor or specialist about what you are hoping to achieve.

Good luck Brian I hope you manage to find a solution that helps your condition.
