Daid, you dont say what your chest condition is or mention treatment except for a pump. I am afraid I cant help you my self but strongly suggest that you contact both your GP in the morning or ring the BLF nurse 0300030555 in the morning. I think you need to ask questions. Before then, I would try to sit back and rest.
Any emergency before then, ring 999. Best wishes, sincerely Annieseed x
I anneseed i have copd in the
Beginning of the year i was told but it is like i have gone down hill fast as the wife as even stopped me from driveing i am on blue pump sertide 500 handy inhaler and eniberlizer three times Aday
Can't add more than Annieseed said, all good advice. You are obivously worried,so do seek professional advice,& let us know how you go,good luck,
Wendells xx
Oh dear, you poor thing David, infection? Do you have a rescue pack of antibiotics and/or steroids?
Is the gunk yellow?
By pump do you mean oxygen? If so that's out of my experience but someone will be along any moment to offer advice.
In my area of London they have a walk in clinic attached to the hospital o perhaps you need to ring the out of hours doctor
All the best to you. P
Sounds as though you have a chest infection, as mentioned ask your doctor to provide
you with a Rescue Pack for times like this. Go see doctor, good luck Adrian
Hi, I know what its like to be so breathless, but you can be helped. Have you rung 111 to ask for advice rather than waiting until tomorrow to see your gp. Tell them at 111 what medications you have taken today and how many times you have had to take the blue reliever inhaler(pump)
999 if you are really struggling. ...you can be given a steroid injection or tablets that will help with the breathing and oxygen if you need it, and then you need to be reassessed really.
Good luck, ask your wife to ring if you are too breathless. Thinking of you
I have seen copd nurse and doc. They told me to try the eniberlizer three times a day
And see how i get on if it do not. Do not work then they will try me on steroids long term. As if i sit and do nothing my breathing not to bad
Hi again, have you got a preventer inhaler as well as the blue "pump" (mine is brown)? I also take a 5mg prednisilone tablet a day.
I find if I take too much of my nebuliser or blue inhaler without balancing the steroid medication my breathing gets worse, and I cough more especially when moving around. But thats just me, different drugs suit different people.
The Helpline will tell you more and then you will have more information when you see your gp to check if you have an infection.
Hi David12, cannot add to the advice given except to say it can be much a trial and error process in order to find the best drug for you. You have to work with the medics to achieve this and may have some worrying set backs while doing so, very best wishes for a speedy solution to which drugs you need.
can you get a sample tested of what you are coughing up ? then you will know if it is an infection and which antibiotic is best . Hope you are feeling better. Don't delay ... see your Doc for further investigation and to ensure you are getting all the help you can with medication etc. look at this site for exercises to help breathing ... and helpful breathing techniques too.
Hi David12, good advice from everyone especially juliekay as good idea to get a sample of mucus tested asap to see which antibiotics will be best for you. Good luck to you and let us know how things go. Take care. xxxx
Hi David Please go to the doctor. The symptoms you describe usually mean a chest infection for my husband. My husband is on his second pulmonary rehab course which is an exercise programme and information for you. Please ask about it don't give up keep asking for help until you find the right meds for you. Take care Tad x x x
I have to go to the doc Friday .as i know it is not a chest infection as gunck is like white .
Hi, I always thought that if the gunck was white it was ok but I have since learned that even when my gunck is clear or milky there has been an infection and they can hear the rattling in my lungs. You need help. Susie Q
As always on this site loads of good advice from those who really do know what it feels like, the only people who can help you though are qualified medical staff, your doctor or the nurses on this site they have years of training and know which drugs will work best for you. Most of us have suffered the awful breathlessness and constant coughing up gunk. I am lucky and have found ways to relax and stop thinking about what might happen. Look on this site for breathing technics, they allow you to calm your breathing before you get into trouble, do everything slowly, don't leave it too late or you will end up spending two weeks in hospital.
Good luck
Maurice
Oh David I wish that the BLF admin had kept hold of our post from the old Forum. I know I keep harping on about the old Forum but the replies, support and help on there was second to none. each person was invited to write a little about themselves, hence the reason I wished they had saved them. David you would witness on my Story That I was so much like yourself and I can honestly say you can be helped without going to your Professionals. HOWEVER remember that we are not trained we can only talk from our experiences; there again who know how to live with these conditions better than ourselves, If you need to discuss medication to take or what exercise disciplines to do then we are no good you need to see your clinicians. If you want to find out how to live a great quality of Life then yes we are the ones to speak to. I will follow on in a minutes. David I have 4 lung conditions 2 under the brolly of COPD Chronic Bronchitis and Emphysema. Outside of COPD I have been diagnosed with some Pulmonary Fibrosis plus Black lungs due to my 30 years on the Coal face. Yet I have a great quality of Life, One that I wouldn't swap with anyone. More to come
Sorry David As I had wrote many words my Reply disappeared so I will keep sending my replies in bits Please forgive me. No I don't think this is anything Admin.
David I had it in my mind that I had lung Cancer and yes it was fine when my mind was telling me but I didn't want a doctor telling me or a specialist, So yes my friend I kept the truth from my GP. I would need to see him over an accident I had experienced when getting buried underground. Each time I went. It would be, Doctor could you please take a look at my chest I have a bit of a cough started up. No I never mentioned all the blood or me crawling round on the floor trying to drag my mucus up yes somewhat like yourself David. He would ask me what colour was my Mucus Well I couldn't tell him red or I would be hearing I had cancer So this idiot would say its clear, So I would go home with Ann (the Wife) playing hell up what sort of dr have you got Geof No antibiotics. No the doctor said they wouldn't help me. Of course the wouldn't I have told him that my mucus was clear.
You can imagine how I felt when a Letter came from the DHSS, You have to attend a medical. WOW they will find I have Cancer what can I do? Nothing I had to go. After the blowing into these tube things everything went Quiet. God he doesn't know how to tell me. Then the Voice "How are you coping with this"? With what, what is wrong He replied you have COPD that is all I can say, you will hear more shortly. Yes the next time I saw my GP he told me he was sending me to the Specialist at our Local Hospital. More Worries Aren't I a Coward David? More to come.

So Sorry stone but does the BLF know how to live with COPD? Yes they are good at Fund raising hence the Brilliant Research they do but as for living with a long term conditions only the experts can help and yes the people actually living with COPD are the experts.
