This is a strange illness

Been to see hubby's consultant today and she said that his breathing tests show a worsening of the condition which is strange considering how well he feels. She has changed his medication from seretide to symbicort and has lowered the dose of prednisolone in an attempt to stop his arms bruising so badly - fingers crossed.

It is a very strange illness SecondLife, even us with exactly the same condition suffer from different symptoms. I used symbicort for many years, first the 200, then the 400 and find it great (well, I have nothing to compare it with except not using it, and I soon know if I've missed a dose!). I don't take prednisolone except if I have an exacerbation or infection but still get the bruising on the arms, the skin is so thin now. Why does it have to be somewhere that shows? No problem with legs or rest of body! Hope the change in meds help your hubby. Libby x

Ha ha, finding long sleeved tops in not that easy in summer, may go with the gloves....... x

Yep its weird alright, i now use symbicort 400 plus spiriva 18mg, also carbocistine capsules 375mg x2 twice daily, they break up the mucus and make it easier to cough up and aid my breathing. These and at times i feel great. But it doesn't last long enough. I also use olbas products which i find work well as a complimentary treatment to the prescribed drugs and inhalers.

He has all of these as well, have now lowered his steroid tabs by .25mg in an effort to reduce the bruising and also to reduce the pressure in his eyes. Is Olbas better to use than Vicks? There was a huge discussion recently somewhere that Vicks is bad for COPD sufferers.

I think its just peoples preferences, i find Vicks products not as effective, as far as the debate is concerned, all i can say is both my GP and Respiratory Consultant are both happy for me to use olbas as an extra complimentary therapy.but as i said it's a matter of opinion as to which is best. As for it being bad for you, i would imagine in some cases it could be depending on a persons condition, but apparently now they say Omega 3 is bad for males with cardiovascular disease ? Read that in one of yesterdays papers. Does this mean i cant eat my favourite fish anymore. ( Salmon ) :(

Odd isn't it Secondlife. I had my respiratory nurse in today and she also said my condition was worse. I have felt better today than I have all week. I'm just going to ignore her. lol

Think you and hubby belong to the same club lol.

Couldn't agree with you more! My husband has seemed pretty much ok (has severe Copd) but at a recent pr assessment he has been advised that he will have to use oxygen on exercise. Though his spirometry is the same as two years ago! My husband also bruises very badly on his arms. Hope all continues to be well with your husband despite the breathing tests ! Tad x x
