The oxygen nurse

came round this afternoon. As she left she said something that didn't bother me at the time but has niggled all evening. She said and I quote

" I doubt I will be changing anything at the moment."

Can she change my hoof without the consultant and GP and me having a say?

Look forward to your answers, thanks Tina x

Mine does. I think she does it through the consultant though.

Thankyou can sleep without the worry that I could lose my independence.

I would say she can't do so on her own. She would need to speak with the consultant first and also, to change oxygen status you need to be assessed.

That's OK then. I knew there was a reason that I shouldn't have got involved with the district nurses. Once you're in the system you're trapped.

I would agree with the above answers. My respiratory nurse though can make suggestions on my treatment and although she needs the doctor to sign off a prescription, her input has been invaluable. No-one can change any thing without your agreement, well that is my understanding of it anyway. Don't be a worrying ! :) xx

My oxygen nurse changed mine without proper assesment, suggestion or agreement on my part, she made a home visit without prior notification I was still in bed and on oxygen, took my ABG and said it was 10 switched of my oxygen concentrator, saying not to use it and said she would see me in clinic in six weeks time and was gone in a flash. I became quite ill my husband was forced to take a week of work and we had to cancel our forthcoming holiday at Whitsun. Needless to say I did use the oxygen when sob but with trepidation I could not eat or sleep . I made a complaint and was told by my consultant that it was discussed and agreed with me, a total fabrication nobody in their right mind would agree to such a trial whilst being away on holiday and away from home. It's almost 8 months since I was discharged on oxygen and I have been given different management advise from different nurses who all appear to contradict one another I feel I am no longer able to trust them

Oh, I feel for you. How insecure and unsure and unwell that must have made you feel. Is it all sorted now?

No not really although my complaint is being investigated and the oxygen nurse phoned and requested another home visit accompanied by a senior oxygen nurse I recognised from the ward.. my sats were 92/88 off oxygen sitting in a chair my oxygen is still at 1ltr (It was 2ltr but turned down after an earlier clinic visit but I was told to turn it back up for the stairs and outside but a week later she phoned to say keep it at one. Still no idea what they would be if I were moving or climbing the stairs which is what I have the most difficulty with having an upstairs bathroom and recovering from a kidney infection as well as chest infection on my discharge. Do they ever check your sats on moving or walking it's been over 8 months

She wanted to check mine walking without oxygen. I said that would be fine if she came bsck with a letter from gp saying I could. Mine drop to 45/50 without and moving.
