Hello , is it possible to feel worse since being put on Spiriva? Have to say just lately , since starting this I have been so breathless. My Asthma has been so bad I was put on Steroids . Strangely enough they never helped ( they always have in the past) . I am taking my Hay fever treatment and am not sure whats going on. I have Emphysema

Hello angela :)

It's possible that Spiriva isn't working for you :( but to be on the safe side I would recommend having a word with your gp or respiratory nurse to check. Alternatively, you could call the British Lung Foundation Helpline on 03000 030 555 where there are nurses who are familiar with this medication. Their lines are open 10am - 6pm Monday to Friday.

I hope you manage to find a satisfactory solution :) but for now

keep on keeping on :) ....

xx

Hi angela12345

I hope you are feeling better soon.

People can react differently to all medications - you mention you are on steroids for your asthma so you are experiencing a flare up of symptoms.

The breathlessness may or may not be connected to the Spiriva but we would advise speaking to your GP so they can assess your breathlessness.

I hope this helps.

Cheers

Jo

I'm fairly new on Spiriva too, but on the whole I think it's actually helping me. I'm putting my current breathlessness down to low weather pressure. I've noticed when it's not low, I'm only breathless when walking.

Right now breathless, and sitting at the computer - been here a couple of hours - girding my loins regarding making another movement to refill coffee mug. A gal can only go so long without a refill!

I'd do what Jo suggests and speak to you GP. I had bloods tested a few weeks ago, and it's showing I'm also anaemic - a contributing factor to the breathlessness, I've been told.

I have been taking it for a couple of years, I did not realise how good it was until the hospital stopped it in favour of atrovent through a neb, then the breathing really deteriorated so they swopped back. What suits one may not suit someone else.

Sound like you need to talk to an expert, our Health Centre have a policy of helping early so you don't end up in hospital, so I am one of the lucky ones who can reach help when I need it. I guess reading through the blogs on here that you are not all so lucky
