You can also get what they call pleuritic pain without actual pleurisy - I have bronchiectasis and get this a lot. I find paracetamol and ibuprofen help, but not all asthmatics can tolerate ibuprofen.
Yes. I believe you can. I've had it without an infection.
The doc can hear a different sound with the stethoscope for diagnosis.
