Dupixent and asthma flare

I've been on Dupixent for three months now I take it every 14 days but when it gets down to the last four or five days my symptoms start coming back, this time my asthma came back with a vengeance, It was really poorly controlled before I started the Dupixent. I have been right on the edge for 2 days, one attack after the other, my whole respiratory system was burning like I was in a forest fire. My psoriasis came back also, so 'm going to the dermatologist to discuss the Dupixent and whether to change it. Whether or not i stay on it or not, i may need something else to treat my asthma. The Dupixent works well for my asthma for the most part, but maybe a more asthma specific med. would be better. Any thoughts, advice. Thanks, Mark

Hi Marktime

I can sympathise!

I have a similar problem. Have been on Dupixent for two years now ( before that Benralizumab) and I still have periods of really bad flares of my asthma that land me in hospital.

I think that the two week dosing is good for me but I seem ok for several months and then just have a flare that comes from nowhere, with increased eosinophils. I don’t get the skin problems that you have but I certainly get the burning.

I do know that in some people Dupixent can actually increase eosinophils - this is a rare side effect but one that maybe you should get checked out.?

My team have offered me Tezepelumab now as an alternative, but I am trying to hold back from that as I feel I am getting through these bios at a rapid speed and have no where to go after this…🤷‍♂️

I hope you are able to sort something out. Please share any ideas - I would be grateful to hear!!

Good Luck 🤞😊

Yes I have heard that dupixent does not work for everyone with asthma, I was prescribed the dupixent for my Eczema and I was basically just hoping that it would help my asthma and it did but I'm not very far along with my asthma, other than a diagnosis, I really don't know much. I don't know what type. The pulmonologist said I have early airway disease likely from severe uncontrolled asthma that's it. I take the dupixent and I use a steroid inhaler when i know im inflamed and a steroid/albuterol combination when I have attacks. When I go back to my GP I'm going to talk to him about my asthma treatment, and I'm planning on seeing an immunologist or allergist and hopefully get some clarity and maybe help with some major triggers.

Hi

Yes… maybe a difficult one if the Dupixent doesn’t work for both illnesses.🤷‍♂️

I think you can take more than one bio at a time but that might work out expensive?

Hope someone has some ideas?

Good luck 🤞
