Repeated asthma exacerbations

I had asthma upto the age of 5 years. It then went into remission. Reactivated when my folks got me a kitten while I was recuperating from surgery. I am now 69 and it has plagued me since. However, recently after seeing a consultant a few years back was given the recommendation of rescue packs( doxycycline and Predisilone to address these exacerbations. I noticed recently they were taking time to clear? So arranged a private appt with a respiratory consultant. Recommended a high resolution CT of my lungs. Discovered I had cylindrical bronchectasis in my right lower lobe. I am due a sleep test to rule out sleep apnea as this is linked. Cardio physio arranged - this will help get rid of the muck etc.

Here’s hoping things get better

All the best

Pete

I'm sorry it took such a long time to get to the CT stage but thank goodness you've got a diagnosis Petetriplet, also glad about respiratory physiotherapist. It's so vital to get the mucus out of your lungs so it doesn't provide the perfect, warm, wet environment for bacteria to multiply. Fingers crossed that you'll have fewer infections in future. Be sure to re-order your rescue pack as early as possible - now that you've been diagnosed with bronchiectasis I think you're entitled a rescue pack, bi-annual reviews, care of consultant and something else I cannot remember. I have similar experience with endless infections and pneumonia (had pneumonia vaccination in 2013 and only one bout since in 2022). My gp practice won't allow me a rescue however I have Azithromycin on Mon Wed & Friday from November to April.Wishing you the very best outcome. P
