Does anyone wake up in the middle of the night as if they cant breath. Last night I woke up as if i could not take a breath. Took my reliever and came down stairs and went on my mini nebulizer with just saline. This helped but it scared me. I have been very inactive recently due to other health problems and get out of breath sometimes.

Yes, I have woken up every night with asthma to some degree / coughing up mucus, apart from 6 nights since last october! This is a sign our asthma is uncontrolled and in need of extra medication. I would definitely contact your GP/ asthma nurse and ask for an urgent appointment.. Hopefully you can find out what is causing the problems and what asthma type you are - for me its allergies such as most pollens and dust mites, so anti histamines and a steroid nasal spray alongside Montelukast and asthma medication can help. But yours could be different so definitely worth investigating.

Yes I stopped taking my preventer at night so maybe that was part of it. I have nasil polps and take a steroid nose spray too. Seeing the doctor on Saturday so will mention it.

yes that could be likely . I would start taking your preventer before bed . Sorry to hear about your nasal polyps and hope you have a better night tonight

I always have taken my preventer before bed. I never wake up with breathing. I have problems before I sleep at times.

Have you ever been tested for sleep apnoea? That can cause you to wake up like that in the middle or the night. Qcid reflux can also do the same. Or as the other person said it can also mean your asthma is uncontrolled. I hope you get it sorted xxx

Uncontrolled asthma can also have you becoming breathless during the night but waking being unable to get a breath could be something different. Best check with GP

Must add it very important that you rinse your mouth and gargle to stop build up of powder on your throat, try a splash of lemon if not ginger in water as acid will remove phelm
