Fostair potency

If you look at my post history you will see I've been struggling with side effects from all the different damn combination inhalers since I was put on them 2 years ago after bad flare up and then covid.

Been on both types of fostair since March, first powder and from May the spray, I'm supposed to take 4 puffs a day but I've been taking 2 or 3 and a months supply is lasting me 2 months.

I thought recently I had settled onto it as been feeling pretty good last couple of weeks but this morning I opened the new one I picked up yesterday, could immediately taste it was stronger and the old side effects that I thought my body had adjusted to are back, so frustrating.

So my question, is one or more of the ingredients more potent when you use a new one ? Could it be a reaction to the propellant or something idk, but really annoyed now as I was having a good week in the sunshine 🌞

I use the powder version and have not noticed any difference in the newer inhalers so I suppose it could possibly be a change in the gas propellant as they are all trying to get rid of cfc's. But that is a guess, I haven't researched to check, your pharmacist might know. 🤷🏻‍♂️

They definitely will not have changed the ingredients as its not possible as each batch is made exactly the same, the processes are written in stone and have verified and checked before being released to market, maybe the hot weather is triggering your symptoms, it could be a number of things that trigger symptoms your, maybe have a think if anything else had changed in your life !!I hope this helps

It's definitely the inhalor, feeling ok for a couple weeks as the previous one was running out then start new one and these symptoms occur almost straight away, it's like I can only tolerate the inhalor when it's down to about a 3rd of the doses left and tastes weaker

I hate these inhalors, they really are horrible things all of them ive tried so far, just me feel worse but if I stop I get tight chested so catch 22

I would suggest you contact the manufacturer as this shouldn't be happening, I'm on Fostair 100/6 and don't get sideffects from taking the inhaler, but I do get a sore throat but I take greek yoghurt to counter this, it works for me but it might not for everyone though I do feel for you as it is a nightmare suffering

I have been feedbacking to my pharmacist and doctor that the fostair inhalers are stopping working when they have about 70 doses left, the released less gas and taste differently - apparently no one else has ever complained. This has been happening to me for almost 2 years. Initially I though it was due to keeping them out of the fridge for too long but several experiments didn't work and they still change at about 70 doses left . This is the spray one, not powdered.

Yes the spray one is my current one, but have same thing with the powder one as well. They definitely change the more doses are gone, I wouldn't necessarily say they stop working I would say they get weaker which seems to be more tolerable for me

I can taste the difference at about the same time as you, but it still seems to work.

To me the propellant taste is more obvious when I start a new inhaler. I also use Fostair.

Sorry if you already do but do you use a spacer? I find the Fostair spray more potent at first but by using a spacer I can spray and then breath in very slowly. I find the wave technique particularly helpful in this case.

Do u shake it ea time before use? Also on starting a new inhaler,do 4 sprays b4 inhaling yr dose. Ru using a spacer device with it

Yeh I use a spacer and shake it everytime, something in the ingredients just don't agree with me I'm sure

Do you mean spray it into the air the first 4 sprays? Not into the spacer and take 4 in one I assume lol

Yes spray new cannister into air x

There should be zero need to spray 4 times before actually inhaling this medicine. ( wasting it, its an expensive treatment) The counter is set to 121 so shake and free spray once to 120. I agree a spacer is vital when using fostair.

Have a read of the instruction leaflet, whoever told you has erred. I have been on Fostair 100/6 for years. We are all fighting the asthma enemy hence the forum helps by providing a different perspective hence my post. Take care.
