unfortunately asthma and heartburn or acid reflux go hand in hand for many people. There is a lot of research about it. There is also some new research about the long term use of inhaled steroids and the weakening of the diaphragm sphincter muscle where the oesophagus passes through to the stomach. Make sure you thoroughly wash out your mouth after using your inhaler and spit out!

I have just been wondering why I have been getting indigestion recently. And getting a bit concerned. I recently started on Breo Ellipta and have tried to be diligent about using it every day. I think I’ll take a 3 day break and see what happens. I need it more in the winter months anyway and here it is currently summer.

hi yes I have acid reflux mainly at night. I have Omeprazole but usually just take Rennies or Gaviscon if it isn’t too bad.

what is great for heartburn , nexium? Ive been trying betaine hcl with meals but not helpful. Eating chocolate esp, and maybe a beer brings it on too

Eating choc is lethal & causes dreadful heartburn, as do alcohol, spicy foods, carbonated drinks, orange juice and sourdough bread. (Sometime coffee as well.) Awful! Visit your GP & they should prescribe something like Lanzoprazole etc., which will help enormously.

What bout Nexium etc in pharmacy instead ?

You could try Nexium from a pharmacy, but it is expensive. I take Lanzoprazole and keep Gaviscon Advanced just in case.

Sour dough bread?!! Oh boy! I changed to sour dough because I had heard it was better for digestion! 😳

It sends me skyward! I think it just depends on the individual. I guess it's question of trial, error and elimination with different foodstuffs.

I don't think it's available over the counter, just on prescription. There may be other gastro-resistant meds available over the counter. Ask the pharmacist and if they don't help (I don't mean the pharmacist!), I would go to your GP. Lanzoprazole really works for me (I was prescribed Omeprazole and another one , begins with R, can't remember its name & they didn't work). I take 2 twice daily and that's it. I don't have to keep relying on Gaviscon or whatever (although I always have some in, just in case). Hope you get what's right for you to sort you out.
