Bruised ribs

A couple of days I tripped pver something, and went crashing to the pavement. The worst bruising is to my ribs, and both yesterday at one point, and today I am wondering if it affects my breathing. I know that it is important to breathe deeply regularly and quite frequently when this happens, and I have been doing that. Has anyone had something similar when your breeting became affected? If so any good suggestions? Unfortunately I haven't checked my peakflow yet as my meter seems to have gone awol. A new one should be with me by tomorrow.

When I injured my ribcage in a car accident a few years back, the doctor said I needed to stay dosed up on painkillers so that I would breathe normally as the pain was making me breathe too shallowly. Have you been checked out to make sure there's no serious damage? If it's just bruising, then maybe painkillers would help.

Thank you for your sensible response. After I had posted I did ring the Helpline, and they said more or less what you are saying. So I will now start dosing regularly, which I haven't done, and I will have it checked out tomorrow. I can't face Urgent care this time on a Friday. No point calling my GP - I can only get hold of them through an online form, to which I wouldn't get a response before Monday.

I had a similar fall, isn't it painful? I didn't find it affected my breathing apart from finding it uncomfortable to breath deeply. I was better after about 3 weeks.get well soon!

Hello and yes. I was pulled over by my daughters dog and crashed onto my side. I was okay for a few days apart from being bruised then I developed a touch of pleurisy / chest infection. I’d get checked out by your gp if you get pain in intake of breath or feel more wheezy than normal. Hope you heal soonxx

So far so good, but have felt a bit of laboured breathing when standing up or walking. Sitting no problem. Attending urgent care today ,
