Hi just to let everyone know. A new biologic has been approved by NICE today. And the qualification is severe asthma with more than 3 exacerbations needing oral steroids per year. This such good news. I suspect it will only be available in tertiary clinics to begin with. But is good for lots of people who don’t have high eosinophils.
I’m in the US and I’ve been on it since January, so 3 shots so far. It has changed my life. First thing that has worked for me in over a year. I’ve been hospitalized 5 times in the last year- I have severe persistent asthma that is non- allergic and non- eosinophilic. Dupixent did not work, I’m on constant steroids, etc. Got on tezspire and I’m out of the hospital, back to work and regaining my stamina and my breathing is a little better every day.
hi,I’m due my second dose in a week’s time,Apart from a few aches there’s been no side effects and my breathing as started to improve slightly, still to early to tell for me as on 30mg of pred which as been my baseline for the past 14 years, the consultants do seem to be more confident than all the other biologics that I have tried so fingers crossed this is the one
I was told about this new one last week by my Brompton consultant , I have tried 2 lots in the past and had side affects to both so didn’t want to try anymore but I was advised by my chest consultant today that it could be a good thing and the only way I’m going to get off the steroids
I think anything to reduce steriod use is worth a real go. I am expecting some side effects maybe to start with if I get it, but will definitely give it at least a six month trial, unless I get an allergic reaction. I've waiting for two years for this to get approval, and my consultant was worried I would be excluded when Nice set their criteria but luckily I'm not. So hoping I get to try it.
I had my 2nd tez injection today at Brompton,a few achey muscles but no other side effects.since my first injection my peak flow has gone from 390 to 580 (best in last 3 years 450)and my Feno test dropped from 87 to 25.I reduced pred from 30mg to 25mg for 2 weeks and tomorrow will reduce to 20mg until my next injection,Can’t believe such a change in such a short time, won’t get too carried away though as other biologics worked to start with but eventually stopped working but this one does seem different
I have just been told today that this has been approved for me and I should hopefully start the treatment soon. I've had asthma since childhood and I'm now 69. My asthma was controlled for years, but in the last 15 months I've had 4 admissions and my asthma is currently uncontrolled! Its very reassuring to read these comments.
This is great news, although I am still struggling to get approval for biologics, despite having raised ige, 5 courses of oral steroids in the last 6 months, a couple of ambulance visits, and asthma problems every night since October! if feels like the NHS are making this incredibly difficult to get prescribed.
