I have been on Singulair (branded montelukast) but last week doctor issued generic Montelukast. Anyone here on generic montelukast and is it still effective? I have read somewhere the generic is not that effective as The branded one. Thank you for your replies! 😊

Hi. The generic brand should have exactly the same active ingredients but is very much cheaper than branded. They can be up to 80% cheaper for the NHS to buy. There’s been a major shift (rightly in my view) to providing generics for many long term conditions.

Hi. I have one med (for another condition) that I’ve been told I mustn’t switch brands - not necessarily branded vs generic, just stay on whatever you start on. Everything else, including montelukast, varies from month to month, and I’ve not noticed any problems.

I am a Registered Nurse - and have the same complaint about a particular generic Montelukast - the active ingredients within the generics have to be the same as what is in the brand name drug - but the fillers do not have to be the same. Certain fillers used by a company, can keep a medication from absorbing in to your system - therefore the drug may not be working as well for you. Cheap generics are not necessarily the same as the brand name drugs. Contact your doctor -
