Jump to repliesgetting a GP to recognise CVA is the first uphill struggle. Beside inhaler I have Montelukast and fexofenadine. I find that JAKEMANS honey and menthol helps to sooth the throat.
My asthma is very allergy driven and I now have HEPA filters working. One in the bedroom, one in the lounge and a third in the hall.
Presumably you find that the Hepa filters work? I am also very affected by allergies and wonder about buying one. What make are yours? Thanks
first I bought a fairly cheap one. £42 from Amazon as I didn’t want to waste too much money if they didn’t help.
I then bought a bit more expensive one and ended up buying a big Dyson HEPA /fan for the hall.
For my GERD I have 180 mg of lansoprazole. My daughter has a fancy breathing gadget from her GP that is said to re-tone the abdominal muscles and stop the acid reflux. They are about £150 to buy,
Thanks, that’s interesting. You obviously found the first filter good as you then invested a lot more. Do you know the name of the gadget?
Perhaps the dosage of your ppi needs to be increased. Recently, associated with chest infections, I have had bouts of nonstop coughing, Each time - after several weeks of coughing - I took a prescription antibiotic, clarithromycin 500mg twice a day for 5 days, and that killed the infection and stopped the coughing. During the antibiotic course, if more than 12 hours passed before taking the next tablet the coughing immediately resumed! - it stopped soon after taking the next tablet. It wasn’t till the end of the course of antibiotics that the cough completely went - on both occasions.
I became very ill last winter (age 62) as they did not diagnose my constamt coughing as asthma until very late in the day since I did not respond much to clenil. Even a specialist asthma comsultant missed it. Mine is also very allergy-driven. Have you had lung function tests? When I finally had them, the consultant panicked and put me on lots of meds including oral steroids. It took max strength Fostair 200/6, a strong steroid with long-acting broncho-dilator, to start to control it and I also now take Ciclesonide inhaler. When I try to wean off the 2nd inhaler, the cough comes back. Fisherman's Friend original lozenges help a lot. I have been offered benralizamub, a biologic, but am holding back as this is 'top of the tree' med. The GPs I saw at first had no idea. Hope you get some relief soon
hi, I have cough variant asthma. It tends to be triggered by a virus. But sometimes it just flared up and I have t a clue what causes it. At times it’s so bad I struggle to speak. I have 3 inhalers. Clenil modulate, salbutamol and salmeterol for when it really flares up. I do also get a tight chest when it’s bad. I guess I am lucky. My gp was happy to prescribe the inhalers when I flared up. He at one point talked about putting me on tablets to help. I am not sure what they would have been.
