montelukast and high blood pressure

Can montelukast elevate blood pressure.?After taking singulair my blood pressure is high. Before starting it,my BP was normal. My doctor says there's no evidence suggestingthat.

Please be careful with this drug. It has a black box warning in the US. Watch for any side effects (which are many). There are groups on Facebook who can answer questions. I was on it for a while but then started with awful stomach issues. Many people are fine, but just be aware.

I came off this medication owing to hat I read in the US only to be hospitalised with my asthma later and then told to go back on it.

High blood pressure isn't listed as a side effect of Montelukast (you can read about known side effects on the patient leaflet that comes in the medication box). That doesn't mean that Montelukast isn't causing your high BP though and this is something you should discuss with your doctor.

The black box warning applies to the mental health side effects that some patients experience, some of which can be severe.

If you're experiencing side effects from Montelukast then you should discuss the matter with your doctor. High BP shouldn't be ignored and it's something your doctor should monitor and treat, if necessary.

I dont know the answer to that Beruska3. I've taken it for many years without side effects. If my BP went up a lot during taking it I'd be speaking to the gp asap.

I bought an Omron BP meter during lock downs to check mine (I believe English GPs use this brand). Very useful to have.

[Asthma-sufferer]

I’ve been on this drug after I was hospitalised with asthma in 2018.

Since taking it I have the usual effects such as nightmares.

Recently noticed my blood pressure has been high 180 / 110 and now been prescribed blood pressure tablets.

Will ask at my next review if this is down to Montelukast.

Looking that other discussions on this seen other cases where some have also seen blood pressure as high.

Have to weigh up all risks as all meds have side effects
