hi does anyone use oximeter for there asthma does it pick up on lung problems thanks
HI Benjamin - pulse oximeters aren't generally recommended in asthma as they can make you think everything is ok when it isn't necessarily. Sats don't always drop in asthma attacks and you don't want to be sitting at home waiting for that to happen before you get help.
This post from the asthma nurses about home pulse oximeters might help:

Ok thanks for your help I went on beta blocker called propranolol and I had bad asthma attack has that happend to you?
I have had asthma attacks yes but not from propanolol - it's not usually suitable for people with asthma for the reason you unfortunately found out!
Talk to your doctor asap. Get off those beta blockers! They are contraindicated for asthmatics. I refuse them when they give them to me in the hospital. I still don't understand why doctors give them to their asthmatic patients. Research and advocate for yourself. Blessings!
I had it with iprobrufen which triggered my asthma
I use a pulse oximeter because I am on O2 24/7. It shows my oxygen drops and helps me regulate the oxygen flow as suggested by my pulmonologist. He told me to “experiment” with the flows and not allow my O2 sat to drop below 88%. I have weak breathing muscles /and deconditioning from long term steroid therapy for polymyalgia rheumatica.
If one gets sick with Covid it was recommended to use the pulse oximeter because one could feel OK and the saturation be dangerously low.
It drops when my asthma flares up.

It just detects your oxygen levels but if it goes below 95 it starts to bleep as your oxygen levels are low also detects your pulse as well. If it does that either you need an urgent appointment or a A&E visit.
Mine went down to 80% i was suffering a chest infection but ended up in hospital on oxygen because it was pneumonia i had.
