Rang docs, as, my asthma, quite bad at moment. Happens every year in summer last 25 years,. Explained how I was, and need steroids. Doc wanted me to go to surgery. Said, I was no my own no transport and not well enough to walk up hill to bus, stop and get back home as, the bus service dreadful . .. She was very reluctant to give me any. Finally after pleading with her she relented. Gave me a 5 day 40 MG script sent to chemist. I was, coughing and getting worked up trying to talk to her and explaining that I wanted to avoid a bad attack and hospital admission via, ambulance which has happened. When I read about people on here having a stand by rescue pack I wonder how,they get them.my surgery won't. She said if i need any more later I will HAVE to see a Doc. Funny but had no trouble the last 2 years, getting them by phone when covid was at its, highest. They didn't even offer to see me then. How, times change. Bring back home visits. Rant over.!!!,

Sad to hear your difficulties with your GP.I have an emergency pack, but it was the consultant that prescribed it . I am sure a GP can also provide you with one.
Is there a specialist asthma nurse at your practice who could help.?
Thankyou for your reply. There is, no specialist asthma nurse there. Only nurses that know, very little, about the condition. Stopped going to reviews, as waste, of time. Last time I went I explained my asthma, and how bad I get in the summer. Her reply was " oh dear". No help there x
So sorry you've had a horrible time of it, not helped by the GP. My rescue pack of Prednisolone and antibiotics form part of my asthma plan, agreed with the asthma nurse. The plan includes increasing my daily asthma meds at the first sign of symptoms and the steroids are only used if things still decline by a certain amount (peak flow). But I always talk to a GP the day I'm starting a course, or the next available working day if I start over the weekend. That way my records are up to date and a fresh prescription is sent through.
If the asthma nurses aren't as good as you'd expect them to be, maybe have an annual review with one of the GPs when you're feeling better. It could be that one of the doctors are more up to date with asthma care, GPs can have their own specialities, the receptionist would know.
Sorry about the problems its usually the nurse practioner who i speak who gives prednisolone . They give rescue but say only use if you need two days later i end up usinv them but never get them replace so when im especially when it hot the just give dose of 8 for 5days but after aweek from them she devided i needed somemore but a reducing course see how i get on that way instead just cutting me of short.Do you have aadvance nurse practioner at your surgery if you do it might be worth having word her/him they are more experienced with asthma and they can prescribe as well also they do lusten not like gps the sometimes just want yo get on to the next patient ok hope that helps.
