Hi, you could look up alpha-1-antitrypsin on the NHS website for a bit more sensible knowledge - remembering you're diagnosed with very low so you're not overly worried. Dont bother with Dr Google just NHS!
Hi, just seen your post, and I know it's from ages ago, so hopefully you've had a chance to get your head around Alpha1 Antitrypsin Deficiency by now. When I was first diagnosed with it, I too consulted Dr Google. Actually I think it might have still be Ask Jeeves back then. Either way I was so frightened I actually fainted. At my desk. At work! Anyway, 20 years on and I'm still standing. I've got used to the idea of this stupid disease now. I'm hoping you have found out more about your diagnosis. The fact that the blood tests showed your serum levels were only slightly low is good news and I hope that further tests have proved to be as hopeful. Unfortunately I can't find any specific Alpha1 forums on this site. This is the problem with having a rare disease I'm afraid! No-one's ever heard of it and when they do, they can't say it! Luckily there are forums elsewhere which will be of help to you. Here you go alpha1.org.uk/ There's a wealth of information there, and in their facebook group, lots of us living our lives with Alpha1 to varying degrees. Good luck
