Has anyone had problems following a bronchial provocation test?
I had mine on Jan 11th and it was fine, I barely reacted at the time. However, later that evening I went downhill and I’ve been struggling to get my asthma under control ever since. I’ve had two asthma attacks and I think I’m heading for another course of steroids unfortunately.
Is it likely that the bronchial provocation test is the cause of all this? x
That sounds so uncomfortable, I'm sorry. Was it the methacholine challenge? I only had it once but it was super uncomfortable and exacerbated my lungs for a few days.
Thankyou for your reply. Yes I think it was the methacholine challenge. Okay so it is quite likely that it has triggered this latest flare then, I didn’t know if I was jumping to conclusions. I’m back on steroids now and starting to recover. Thankyou x
It’s frustrating that a test to gauge and classify our asthma could make us sicker. I think it’s helpful for testing reversibility / how well ventolin works in your lungs but it’s not ideal. Hopefully you won’t have to have another test for a long time! Hope the steroids kick in quick. Take good care
I did one in January as well. I reacted with a type of chest tightness that I’ve never felt before. My asthma was not under control before the test, but since then, it’s been even worse. Now I keep getting sudden asthma attacks with a lot of chest tightness and a lot of wheezing. I never got those before. It feels like my lungs found a new way to mess with me.
