Hi there.Your first asthma attack is, I’m my opinion always traumatic! You are fit and healthy and the next thing, seemingly out of the blue you can’t breathe and there is nothing you can do except pray that the ambulance gets to you quickly. I remember it well!

Of course that shakes your world. Why did it happen. When will it happen again are the kind of things that ran through my mind.

By now you should be on a preventer inhaler which reduces inflammation and any swelling that happens in the airways. You should also have a rescue inhaler, so if it ever does happen again, you can do something about it.

Always make sure you have your rescue with you when you leave the house and have a spare on your bedside table, just in case.

It does take a while for your head to get round it all, but in time you will come to terms with it and your anxiety levels about it will subside.

Thank you for your advice, yeah i believe that someday i'll absolutely can handle this situation. But for now, it still hard for me to hide it all away. So it made me mentally down, and i got another medical issue due to anxiety just like diarrhea. Beside i need the medicine, i also need an expert to control my anxiety 😭

Make an appointment with your asthma nurse at your GP surgery in order to discuss creating an asthma plan. This means you will have a plan in place that will help you step up your treatment if your asthma gets worse, with the intention of avoiding another attack. But the plan will also guide you through what to do if you do have another attack. If you are suffering anxiety about what happened then talk through your concerns with the asthma nurse.

Oke then, but in my country the nurse doesn't really know exactly about your mental health. They just focusing on what happen in your body.

In that case, make an appointment with the relevant doctor. Anxiety won't help your asthma so best to address it now.

Yup, you need to control your anxiety and yup, the asthma nurse might well not know how to advise you, so you have to do your own research. You use the internet, so search for qualified therapists in your area and see what can be done. You will almost certainly have to pay for this, as the NHS rarely gives you the long term therapy you might need for free. The key here is control - but if you are not in the UK it will be different. You can take control of your feelings, and of your asthma, if you get the right help. Good luck!
