Hay-fever show down

Hi Guys, so I am new to this forum. I have asthma which has been behaving on Relvar 184/22 for a good while now. Winter is usually rough but I reckon lockdown kept me well recently. Over the past few weeks I began to get hoarse. Simultaneously I noticed post nasal drip had worsened and my airways are soooo dry. Ive never noticed pollen effects before but I know things can change. Tried Flixonase but no go. Added in marshmallow root, throat coat spray and Telfast. Drinking heaps. The telfast dried my airways out way too much and made things worse. Started using humidifier in bedroom and air filter but it's so hot I ended up opening windows anyway at night to try to cool down as the warm air was making things worse. Spoke to GP last week who put me on betnesol nose drops at a very low dose (1 drop twice a day) as I am on HRT..I read it can raise levels of bethamethasone. After a week I'm to start Dyamyst spray and stop the drops. I'm really fed up...due to go to Italy next Friday and worried I will be ill over there!!!! Is anyone else struggling with this at the moment and if so, am I missing anything that might help? I was on Singulair years ago but nightmares were a nightmare:) and I wasn't sure it even helped. Thanks folks!

Telfast (fexofenadine lin the UK) is a good antihistamine but it's not the right one for everyone. Others do better on loratidine, cetirizine or chlorphenamine - so I would try others.

Tablets used in conjunction with nasal sprays and eye drops usually form a good defence.

Neilmed Sinus Rinse is divided by allergy specialists - used twice a day before nasal sprays it helps to reduce the amount of allergens getting past the nose.

It may be that you will be ok in Italy if you're reaction to something in your area at the moment.

It may of course not be a hayfever thing and could be something else causing the symptoms. I don't know what but it's possible! One good thing from what you've said is that it doesn't sound like it's actually affecting your asthma at the moment - you do have symptoms that sound like allergy but not asthma symptoms. So while it's horrible, at least you haven't got asthma flaring because of it.

Thank you so much for your response. Yes I wasn't clear enough in my post. It has indeed flared up the asthma and I am quite tight a lot of the time. I've had to take ventilon regular over the past week which I dont usually have to do and I my airways are irritated. I do use Neilmed rinses pre drops/ sprays. I am not sleeping well because of it.

In that case you need to contact your GP really as flaring asthma probably needs a review.

I agree. I am due to call her again this week if the betnesol didn't help. She thought it would help the post nasal drip but I am day 6 and no joy. Thanks.

I took Singulair for about a year. For me it was a neutral. I didn't seem to have any reaction to it, good or bad. Perhaps another visit to your GP really is the best advice.
