Montelukast like all meds can take 8 weeks to start working properly. Some side effects lessen after few weeks. It is pollen season can also cause itchy throat.

If you have GERD then that can be an irritant to your throat and respiratory system, causing shortness of breath. Montelukast won't treat GERD but is used to treat asthma. If you believe that you are having a bad reaction to any medicine you should contact your doctor so that they can assess the situation.

Your doctor can prescribe medicine for GERD, in addition to other asthma treatments. This link suggests various options for treating GERD, including changes you can make yourself webmd.com/heartburn-gerd/gu...
