I have been on steroids for years high doses and injections and I now have thin skin. I bruise just by brushing against any thing.

Yes I have the same problem with bruising and also if I am not careful I bleed a lot which is difficult to staunch. I have asked various medics what to do about the problem and I have been told that there is nothing that they can do to alleviate the problem, just have to take extra care. Also aspirin has the same effect so therefore my problem is doubled because I am on a high daily steroid and also take aspirin. Keep Well and Stay Safe

That’s the thing it’s not sore just looks like it is It also tares easy and it’s hard to stop the bleeding but they say there is nothing that they can do so I just put up with it.

I always think there is someone worse off than me and just carry on. An old friend once told me that your are dealt the cards you have to play them we cant always draw four threes can we.

My mother bruises like that - and gets a three cornered tear if she knocks against something hard - and she’s not on steroids at all. When I tried to find anything to help, the answer seemed to be start moisturising about ten years ago... I am now trying to get into better habits myself 😁

I must add to my previous chat that the bruises itch quite a lot but my Dr has prescribed antihistamines Piriton and a cream called Dermacool {very cooling to the skin due to the peppermint?}which are both available to buy at your chemist and possibly on line.

I use Arnica cream to disperse the bruise it works quite well.

Does your doctor prescribe calcium, vit D3 & vit K Mk 7? Just wondering what you've been given to counteract the side effects of systemic steroid use. VitD3 & vitK mk7 play a part in bone & skin health. VitK also pays a roll in blood clotting. VitD3 helps the body absorb the calcium and VitK Mk7 prevents calcification in the wrong places and the body absorbs the VitD3 more efficiently.

My mother's skin definitely got thinner as she got older and she bruised very easily. I would moisturise her legs and arms every evening as this helped. The GP prescribed alendronic acid which she took once a week for osteoporosis. Unfortunately, my knowledge of vitamin deficiency was zero then and I'm now sure she would have benefitted from taking VitD3 & its co-factors. If you're interested in more information then there's a Facebook group dedicated to understanding VitD3 & its co-factors;

Hi, I am so sorry for you. It is horrible when such bruising happens. I get it too, but not as bad as you. Constantly being asked about bruising at the side of my nose - just where my specs sit. I get it if I just rub my face in response to an itch. You are very brave to speak about it - I have found that most doctors don't want to engage with me in discussing causes. Good to know about the fact that Vitamin D may help. Take care!
