Vaccine! Dont give up hope!

So..... I have just had my invite from my GP surgery for my Covid vaccination on Friday!! Even just last week the GP I spoke to re my anxiety said I'd be in my age category (I'm 29) so I just wanted to post to give a bit of hope to others in same same situation as me! X

Glad you're being done - it'll be a mix of things I'm sure. Your recent issues with anxiety aren't just "I need the vaccine", they will be far more complicated than that but if it's part of their decision making then it's good they're using relevant patient knowledge for the here and now!

Thank you! Oh I know that, it is far more complicated than the vaccine and I know it won't help immediately but it is a massive step to know that I am as protected as I possibly can be! As for the reasoning for the invite, I have no idea! It could be they've looked at my records as a whole and added me, or it could just be they've got more vaccine supply than patients on their list for the clinic so they've gone through it that? Either way it's such a relief x

Hi Nicki,

That's great - I'm sure it's a huge relief! Do you mind if I ask what asthma medication you're on? I haven't spoken to my GP about the vaccine yet, but I'm in a similar age group and currently use relvar and ventolin inhalers, and montelukast tablets. I spoke to my GP in January about my anxiety and have made appointments about it in previous years, so it'd be nice if it was taken into account too...

Such a massive relief! I’m on Fostair and Ventolin when needed, I take Acrivastine antihistamines and Dymista nasal spray, I have another condition which means I have to take hormone replacement therapy for (I’m under the impression that condition doesn’t impact on my Covid risk or anything).. as for the reasoning for why I now had the message to book I’m really not sure, it came from my GPs so it could just be that they have more vaccines than patients so started looking at who else they could invite, although my Mum had a blood test there today and the nurse was saying that they didn’t have much vaccine supply for the clinic so who knows! I have a follow up with my GP hopefully Thursday so if I find out anything re the reasoning I’ll post and let you know! X

I've had an invitation for my vaccination from my practice now too so I'm surprised and happy about that! Hadn't spoken to them at all about it so it was a surprise but welcome

in reply toSteK78

So happy to hear this! Yes, me too, most definitely a welcome surprise this morning!

Great 👍🏻 took me three goes with the evidence on paper to get mine so never give up 👍🏻👍🏻🐝🌻🍀

in reply toDizzart

Oh gosh, sorry to hear you had such a struggle to get yours! Yes, it's hope for others too that they haven't been forgotten or behind, and that GPs are being able to use their initiative with who they vaccinate

I rang doctor's surgery today to enquire about when my son would be contacted for a vaccine, but the receptionist said it had nothing to do with the doctor to put patients forward. It is the government decision .

I’m not so sure Freddy as twice I had an unpleasant woman at the docs tell me that then on the third time I rang I got a nice girl who still told me I didn’t qualify until I pushed it and read out my letter stating “ or you can wait for your gp to contact you” I said look on line at my details which she did then rushed off in a panic to her superior where they clearly worked out I should be classed vulnerable and gave me an appointment there and then . I did say though it was disgusting not informing people etc etc and I would consider writing a letter the the press. So in fact it is up to your Doc and it is a case of just passing the buck . So very very good luck , push hard , very very hard and I do so hope you win 👍🏻👍🏻🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀

in reply toFreddy1973

Exactly the same as my surgery... and they usually hide behind the whole we’re not dealing with anything at all linked to Covid, even to the point when my Mum was hospitalised with Covid last month and they still refused to help her! I spoke to one of the GPs last week who said that I wasn’t in group 6, so I don’t know what has changed but so relieved x

Same thing just happened to me! Called the GP on Monday and the receptionist told me I was not in any priority group but this morning recipient a text inviting me to book at my local gp hub!

in reply toAbcdr

That is fab news! I got told by one of the GPs I wasn't in this group last week, so don't know what changed but so grateful!

Very much What happened to me too!Phoned my surgery last week to ask which priority group they had me in and was told it was group 6 but they were still working through group 5 so would be a while more.

Next day I got a text from them saying I was invited to book my vaccination!

Just had it done this morning- feeling very happy !

Ps- just to clarify:

I’ve got Asthma and Bronchiectasis (also had a lobectomy as a baby due to congenital issue with my right lung ) plus hypertension.

All conditions well managed fortunately and I was not asked to shield.

in reply toRattle

Ah that's good that they are getting through them, mine have been doing group 6 for a good couple of weeks now, but I got told I wasn't in that category (I missed by 1 month, I had 3 courses of steroids in 4 months, whereas I think the guidance is 3 in 3 months, I was prescribed Montelukast but didn't get on with it) so I don't know what changed but such a relief!

Ah that's great! I was too poorly to have mine a couple of weeks ago, just had another week's stay in hospital and they told me hurry up and get it ASAP. Gp called this morning and told me it's booked for Friday evening! I'm 29 too with severe brittle asthma.

in reply toTitch1908

Oh no, sorry to hear that! Hope you're starting to recovery! Ah that's great news that you have been able to reschedule, mine is Friday morning, good luck x
