Help managing my asthma

It was only 18 months ago that I was diagnosed with asthma after developing bronchiectasis so I'm still on the journey of understanding how to manage it. Last October my consultant prescribed Ellipta Incruse in addition to the high dose Relvar. This worked really well I was able to exercise etc doing quite challenging walks without needing my reliever inhaler. I felt that I was well enough to take part in the Everest Challenge organised by BLF and Asthma UK walking 130 kms throughout January. I was doing well then third week becoming more breathless than usual. Last Saturday just walking home from the shop brought on full asthma problems with severe breathlessness and tight chest. Have now started on my rescue steroids. I suppose my question is have I brought this on by too much exercise or exercising in the bad weather. Or are things made worse because I have bronchiectasis as well. Just wondering and you are all so knowledgeable and helpful. I finished the challenge by the way and raised £400 for BLF so it's not all bad news. Jo

Firstly, well done for what you achieved!

I suspect it's just that maybe the cold weather has set things off - it may well have happened if you'd done less. It sounds as if you've done the right thing by starting your steroids though so hopefully they will do the trick. Once you've finished them/feel ok you might need to be wary for a few days after that if it's still cold - eg going out for a run straight off might be too much, but see how you feel as it varies for everyone.
