Hello All. Do those of you who have or are about to have, taken or are planning to take, pain relief after your Covid vaccination such as paracetamol or your pain relief medicine of choice, should you experience pain or fever ?

Only if I need it, but if I do then I will.

I ask because there is some thinking that allowing the body to develop its immune response by fever and aches and pains is a way to get the most of of it rather than dampening it down with analgesics. Does that make sense?

As said by mariyn medics tell you to take paracetamol if required. I took paracetamol twice following my jab on Sunday. Arm still sore today but not enough to require painkillers.

Ah I see. Sorry thought you meant taking it beforehand in case, or that sort thing! 🤦‍♀️

Obviously (or I would hope it's obvious!) taking it afterwards if needed is just common sense.

But I don't know much about the letting things do own thing.

Hi, I had my vaccine on Sunday, apart from a sore arm that day which I didn’t need pain relief for but I have a high pain tolerance so that may be just me. I have not had any effects at all I had more from my flu jab than this one 😀 now just waiting for my next appointment x

As i got quite vaguely fluey with mildish acnes and pains and general discomfort, I did. My husband did not react at all.

I felt rough for about 24 hours with mild flu like symptoms and took paracetamol. I've seen various newspaper articles telling patients not to take ibuprofen or paracetamol before having the vaccine but they stress that there hasn't been any research. Those who took part in the covid vaccine trials were able to use painkillers if needed.

Hi Poobah. Thanks for sharing that you have seen articles about resisting taking analgesics at the time of the jab. I know that the research isn’t there to support this hypothesis but research always lags behind hypotheses doesn’t it?

HiNurse said to take pain relief if have cold/flu symptoms after vaccine which many have reported. Have felt very coldy, headache, muscle weakness , aches and chills, this is second day and taking paracetamol has eased some of these symptoms. I also remember reading don’t drink alcohol for a few days after the vaccine.

Hi Pugdog. Yes I know that that you can take analgesics if you want to. It is just that there is some thinking out there from some medical workers that it can be helpful to allow the effects of the vaccine to run their course and not damp them down with medicines that for insta, reduce any fever or aches you might have as a result of the jab. I was wondering if anyone had heard this or has done it?

hi i had my 1st covid vaccine yesterday and the nurse said to take paracetamol for pain relief and not ibuprofen. She said that it would make the vaccine less effective if i took anti inflammatories and that's why they were recommending paracetamol instead. I have a sore arm but nothing else yet so hopefully you won't need to take anything.
