Hi there,

Usually the first appt at a spec hosp is mainly covering your asthma history in depth etc. Nothing too major.
Js706 goes into more detail here; healthunlocked.com/asthmauk... and I think goes in to things you may want to do in preparation for it!
Good luck and hope it goes well
Thanks so much
Had my first appointment at Preston Royal which is the specialist team for my area. From memory took 4 hours wasnt allowed to take my meds before my appointment so they could see me at my worst and gauge my asthma more properly.
As a precursor to biological injections had a trial of steroid injections for 3 months never felt better after the injections they did another spirometry after the course 40% improvement of fev then got approved for biological injections.
All in all 9 months from first appointment to official diagnosis and then biologic treatment which in the midst of covid I am impressed with
Good luck at guys and I hope you get some help
I had my appointment at that clinic at guys in October. I was there about 2 hours, they done a spirometry and a feno test. The doctor had a chat with me, went through the last year what happened etc. I also had a blood test, i think that was it. They are really helpful there, only thing i think they lacked was informing me of side effects of the long term antibiotics they put me on. But i know next time to ask the nurses are wonderful there and really helpful.
I go there too. My Dr is Dr Jackson. He is very good.
I have been under the care of Guy’s since July 2018. My first appointment, consultant took detailed history, did spirometry tests and FeNo (indicates how inflamed your lungs are). A second appointment a few weeks later. About 3/4 hour for first appointment if memory serves me correctly. The consultant I saw originally has left but the one I see now is great. Very willing to answer my questions. A wonderful service and great doctors, specialist nurses, physiotherapists, lung function technicians, admin support. Absolutely brilliant. All the best.
