SIDE EFFECTS

Hi,

I have been on Symbicort turbo inhaler for 5 weeks, now, my breathing has been improved but I am feeling light headed & wobbly like jelly. I was switched to this from Sterimar. I am also taking 5mg steroid. I was referred for a 2nd opinion & he changed the inhaler & gave a complete opposite diagnosis to the consultant I've been under for 2 yrs now! I am feeling very confused!! Would be grateful for any advice.

It could be the long-acting bronchodilator (LABA) in the Symbicort (the formoterol bit) making you feel like that. Give it a bit longer and see if it lessens, if not maybe try and talk to your GP or specialist - some people find different LABA and steroid combinations better than others, so while one might not be right for them, another might be.

It's odd that your GP only had you on a saline nasal spray (the Sterimar)!

I had that same thing recently! It never occurred to me it could be the Symbicort. For around a week it felt like I was on a boat and then it stopped. Cheers! I now have an answer, hopefully, for my short lived light headed sea legs. Thanks Lhasa3 for bringing it up & thanks, again, Twinkly29 for yet another answer.

It's really odd how people find certain inhalers excellent or just not right for them. I suppose it shouldn't be as we're all individuals but it doesn't seem to be as obvious for medications for other things.

Did your sea legs/lightheadedness improve/stop or is it just straight after you've taken it each time? Just being nosey as I've never had it with mine! 😅

As I said, I didn't connect it with the Symbicort. It was one of those things that wasn't there all the time, just every so often and for varying lengths of time. Sometimes worse than others. At times it would last a few seconds whereas at other times it would last a as long as a trip to the kitchen (almost a minute). So, on writing this I realise it didn't just happen as soon as I'd taken it, it was happening through the day. Perhaps I'd been taking too many puffs, but I don't think so. I think this lasted around a week. It started a couple of times one day, which at first you think it was just a bit odd, then it increased to several. One day it just wasn't there and that was that. It was actually a couple of days later I realised it was gone. I just put it down to being a bit low on something.
