Hi all - first post. I have mild asthma, which is normally asymptomatic, and only appears sometimes after a bad cold, which goes on to affect my chest. I have an asthma review annually and the asthma nurse knows and approves of the fact that I do not normally use a preventer, unless I start with a cold when I take puffs of Clenil Modulite, the brown preventer twice daily. I first started using the brown inhaler about 25 years ago when I was diagnosed during a chest infection. My peak flow is normally really good when the nurse checks it
Due to the Covid 19 threat, I thought I’d better start taking the Clenil preventer, in case of infection. After a few days I had a dry mouth, burning tongue, a bad taste in my mouth, which seems to go up the back of my throat into my nose and even cause a smoky smell at times. I’ve also had tingling around my lips/mouth at times when the taste has been bad. And I am getting twinges across the upper part of my back across the top of the shoulders, not sure if that’s related - it feels a bit like trapped wind. It all seems worse in the evening, when I’m sitting down.
I stopped for a few days and the taste/smell eased. So I started again about 3 days ago, this time using a spacer and only one puff instead of two. Last night I was awake hours with the horrible taste/smell/dry mouth back.
I’m not sure if this is gastric reflux related; as its worst does seem to be after meals, when I lie down or sit down. I also suffer intermittently with reflux. But I’m not feeling heartburn, and it seems to be (sorry) any mucus coming into my mouth that tastes really bad. It seems to come from my lungs.
So I’m not sure whether it’s Clenil related, reflux related or a combination of the two.
But how can it be caused by the Clenil inhaler when I’ve used it on and off for years with no problem? Has the formula changed recently? The one I’m using was prescribed June 2019 and has a use by date of 2021 so it’s not out of date.
I suffer intermittently from anxiety, which is triggered by stuff like this, when my imagination runs away with me. In normal times I’d go to the doctor, but it’s a bad time right now, they’re doing mostly telephone consultations.
