FYI if you should be receiving a shielding communication but not had an email

I did have an email but this morning I also got a letter, which has the advice for 'shielding lite' for this lockdown and explicitly says that it can be used to show your employer if needed (as does the email).

So if you think they don't have your email address, don't worry - you should still be getting a letter! (I'm Greater London if that helps).

PS I find Matt Hancock's signature amusing.

Pahahaha I got email but no letter yet however I did also receive email from my council today as CEV stating what support they can offer this time. 🙂 it also shows you how many volunteers and how many cases/clients taken it up. So 86 volunteers and 26 people taken it up for my area. Whole list of things online self care, photography courses etc etc, shopping, education help for your kids, benefits support, prescription sounds good.

I didn't click the link but sounds good, hope helpful for people who need it :) Hopefully I won't get all the soup this time...I still have 8 cans of Heinz tomato from spring lol.

I admit I can't be bothered to ask a volunteer this time. I really appreciated them doing stuff for me in the spring but I hate being reliant on other people for everyday things, so this time I'm just going to do my own shopping, pharmacy etc.

I've now also had a text from the council telling me to stay inside and one from the NHS telling me to see my GP if I need to.

I'm just waiting for my old mate NHS Coronavirus now lol.

Well last time my council rang me very apologetic 4 weeks before lockdown to say they'd missed me so that why I hadn't been able to get priority delivery slots and was told I would get a food parcel it continued every week until lockdown finished I couldn't believe it free food for 4 weeks! So did everyone get this for whole of lockdown? They're not doing it this time though but you can pay someone to do your shopping. But even in that 4 weeks still have tinned soup... 😆

Yeah I got the parcels. Then I got a supermarket slot and asked to stop them as I wasn't using half of it (I managed to give to a food bank as one of them would collect) and was still earning. Took a while to get them to stop sending it though lol. I think some people had more problems getting it but theoretically everyone who said they needed help got it from the start.

I still have an Asda slot but I cba and don't like relying on someone else, so I'm still going to the supermarket. I think there should be volunteers who do it for free again this time (or did you mean pay them FOR the shopping?) if you need it, plus pick up meds. I haven't used it for a while but kept it going by skipping just in case I needed it.

I really appreciated my volunteer but I had to rely on his work hours and the pharmacy hours and him remembering last time and it was just a faff. I was so British and would say no hurry etc so it would be like 5+ days, when I hadn't run out but did need it a bit sooner, then didn't like to say actually I do need it now. I absolutely hated not being able to just go myself so this time I will.

I think it said to pay them to do the shopping however I only looked quickly so could have misread it. Yea the relying on someone else is a huge thing I never realised how much I took for granted pre covid just going for a mooch around shops, seeing friends, basically ability to do anything! Plus ability to work from health and risk of covid meaning I had money 🙂 as opposed to now struggling with tasks but I did go back to work July as couldn't afford not to until ended up in hospital aug as you know, now ESA. I mean full time wage to ESA wow my life has changed 😱😂🤣 trying to find a remote rgn post that's part time is proving difficult lol. Hoping I can be furloughed 🤞🏽🙂. God knows how others are managing with poor asthma, off sick due to working in healthcare and manual handling and shielding 🤣😂.

I haven't had an e-mail or text or letter. I was one of the first people to get a shielding letter back in March. I'm not working so I wondered whether that had anything to do with it. I'm continuing to follow my Consultant's advice and basically continue to shield so it doesn't make any difference to me.

I've been self-employed the whole time so probably not related to work - maybe some weird quirk of your local NHS/council. I'm assuming you're in England but maybe some areas are slower than others to send this time, as they were before (and it's just different ones being slow).

It seems a shame I have all the letters etc when I don't need it! I am self-employed and luckily in a job I can do from home anyway so don't need it for work, and I'm not really planning to do anything special this time beyond general caution.

Hope everyone who needs one gets one asap and your employers are sympathetic and helpful :)

I'm in England, I have really felt for everyone who have been shielding and have had to go back to work with absolutely nothing to enable them to stay at home and have financial support or backup to say they are extremely vulnerable or vulnerable. I hope that everyone who needs the correspondence gets it as soon as possible.

I have severe asthma as well as bronchiectasis so I'm being extra careful because of having both conditions.

I haven’t received anything either and I also received the letter really early last time 🙃... I’m just being careful, I’ve been working from home since start of the pandemic anyway but would like the letter or email in case work ask !

Maybe they’re working in reverse order - got mine really late last time, but got the email on Wednesday!

I don’t particularly want to bother the GP for the email. I’m presuming as I received a shielding letter in March and haven’t been told otherwise I am still on the list. If work ask me for anything I will produce the last one and contact Gp if I need to ... ?

The emails come from the Department for Health and Social Care so not sure that GPs could provide one for you. Hopefully you'll get a hard copy letter soon and it'll be there if you need it.

As long as you have email you are covered as it states on there it can be used for employers and benefits. I still haven't had letter but not worried as got email so will use that.

I had my shielding letter early on last time, but I've received nothing yet this time round. I have severe asthma. Rheumatoid Arthritis and High blood pressure. I work in healthcare dealing directly with residents that have tested positive or are showing symptoms so are isolating. Ive been provided with nothing more than a plastic visor as I'm exempt from wearing a mask. My employer won't accept my letter from last time and demands a new, updated one or insists I have to work. Also stating they have a 'waiver' I can sign confirming im aware of the risks. I cant afford to go off sick on SSP so I feel like I'm dodging a bullet each time I get a negative test result. The stress is not helping my blood pressure at all but what can I do. Tbh I'm still recovering from the backlash I received from shielding last time. Its a no win situation it seems
