Lockdown email

I just received a government email confirming that as I am clinically extremely vulnerable, I should not go to work, even if I cannot work from home, alongside other instructions.

Has anyone else had an email?

Yes, come off “the naughty step” on Saturday aka Covid APP induced self isolation to go back into hibernation! 😩😩Not sure if I’ve the will power to do it all again but I guess have to try...

At least we're 'allowed' out this time etc - less extreme!

Having said that I went out last time anyway and will definitely keep doing it again as usual. I got too deconditioned before as I wasn't going out often or far enough.

I only skim read my email but was amused by 'going outside for medical appointments' - al fresco clinic anyone? For some reason Macbeth and the witches on the blasted heath comes to mind 😂😂

Yes apart from the work aspect this guidance is not really any different to the rules for everyone else - but keep contact with others to a minimum. Workwise, for many it will be similar too as everyone should be working from home where they can. Of course for those who can't it's really difficult.

Hi everyone. Can I ask teachKat what meds you're taking? I'm sure we're on similar but I seem to always miss any letters etc. Not that I really want to isolate but I am getting very nervous about going into school to work.

Morning ReedB, I’m on Fostair 299/6 2 puffs twice a day, Montelukast, Braltus, Uniphyllin 300mg twice a day and Ventolin as rescue inhaler. I’m also in my sixties which adds to the risk! I was signed off work before half term because my school refused to implement the recommendations from Occupational Health. It’s really worrying for you - could you ask for an OH referral and contact your union? Also check with your doctor to see if they will add you to the extremely vulnerable list.

Good luck, stay safe!

Thanks TeachKat. I'm on similar, fostair, 200/6 2 puffs am/pm plus telfast and dymista. I think I'm in a loop hole somewhere. Good news is I'm finally back under consultant care. Yippee! Hopefully it means better care when things do flare. I think I need to look into the potential shielding more. Saying that I'm lucky as my employers do seem to want to care so if I hd to teach online it would be a possibility.

Your situation sounds difficult still. I hope it works out OK for you x

Yep, email arrived last night. Much clearer this time I think, or maybe it's past experience of knowing what to do. Surprised as I thought asthma was now thought to be less of a risk. Hey ho, here we go, or not, as the email suggests. Take care everyone and remember to use your support bubbles. 🤗

Yes my son had his yesterday. He’s still working this time though and living with others in his student accommodation.

Last time he fully isolated for over 4 months and went out on 1st August and caught covid! He was fine and it didn’t affect his severe allergic asthma at all. He will obviously still take care but he won’t be shielding this time. (He’s 19, almost 20)

Yes I got one too. This is all so confusing.

I got one last night too - unusually efficient for this government!

But time there was all sorts of information about using separate bathrooms if possible, cleaning the bathroom before the clinically vulnerable person uses it, using separate dishes, cutlery etc (which I am still doing) but there isn't anything about this in the new instructions. I'll still be doing it but would've thought this still applies in case someone you live with brings the virus home and touches various surfaces.

I think all that advice is given in the advice for clinically vulnerable people somewhere in the general guidance. They’re really not very good about making things clear!

I think they now know more about transmission and have realised that it doesn't generally seem to be transmitted that way. The virus can survive on surfaces for a limited time yes, but it may not be capable of infecting someone (the tests usually just show if virus is present). I have seen various sources I trust saying you do not need to be hypervigilant in general about wiping everything down or quarantining it, though the advice may change if someone in the house has tested positive.

I did wipe my shopping down last time and some parcels if I remembered but certainly didn't quarantine anything (especially after wiping it as both seemed unnecessary). After seeing the more recent research I have stopped that and now just wash my hands after going out.

That’s a bit of a relief as I hate all the wiping everything palaver! I tend to go for not wiping the shopping, but washing/sanitising my hands when I’ve finished putting it away.

I've not had a email. I got the letter last time. I am surprised I have not got one. As astma is doing its best to finish me. How woukd they have my email address?

Sensible thing is for me to follow the advice. Letter woukd be nice to show my long suffering boss.

I've heard nothing either, no email or letter even though I shielded earlier in the year and was told in July I remained on the list! My asthma's bad at the moment, I'm on my second lot of steroids in a month and I work at a school. My asthma nurse says I must stay at home for the duration. Like you say a letter would be nice though.
