Salamol empty?

Hello

Because I don’t use it everyday I don’t count how many puffs I’ve had of my reliever inhaler and sadly it doesn’t come with a counter.

How do you know when yours is empty if there’s always powder left in with active reliever?

I’ve read about the float test but not sure how reliable this is?

Thank you x

I thought Salamol was a liquid, not a powder? I'm afraid I keep a spreadsheet because I'm a nerd. (Data is interesting at worst, helpful at best.) So I record every time I use it and how many puffs.

I did try the float test when I was down to the final 20 or so doses and it wasn't helping as well, and it bobbed to the surface in a very satisfying way. Back to the pharmacy it went.

When you shake it, can you hear/feel stuff moving around inside?

That's not being a nerd, that's being sensible & taking responsibility!

I’m assuming you are talking about the spray inhalers

The float test is quite reliable however other ways you can tell are;

* it’s lighter with little ‘sloshing’ when you shake it (there will always be some due to the propellant)

* It becomes less affective

* It has a weaker spray (if you spray into air you can see it’s not like it is at the start of the pump)

As you’ve said it takes you a while to go through them have you also checked that it’s still in date?

Hope this helps

After someone else’s suggestion I atttached a knitting digital counter on mine. It will give me a chance of a better idea. Then I can also do the float test.

I put mine in a glass of water and it turns upside down and floats if empty.

Hi,

Float test works great. Save your old empty container and then when you receive your new inhaler compare the full one with the empty one. You will then know what to expect.
