Severe chest and rib pain - no cough

Hi,

My wife was diagnosed with bronchitis last December, since then we've been to the doctor's and they gave her two sprays (blue and pink - can't remember the names). She had bloods and x-ray done, came back clear.

She is iron and vitamin D deficient, she takes supplements for both.

She gets severe chest and rib pain randomly and sometimes back pain. The doctors said it's muscular pain but we don't think it is.

She doesn't cough (very rarely) and feels as though she has a weight on her chest.

Anyone experienced the same.

Thanks in advance.

I get this, but ive had constant chest infections for 8 months. My doctor thought it may be costachrondotis. Its inflammation from the sternum to ribs which can cause back pain too, might be worth looking into? All they suggested for me was physio but they havent done it. Paracetamol doesnt help with the pain, i was told nurofen or naproxen helps but i cant take them.

Let us know how you get on!

Maybe costochondritis it's very painful and can be intermittent sometimes you think you having a heart attack its so bad normally due to coughing but heavy breathing and posture can cause it. I use heat by hot water bottles front and back I sleep on one at times its so bad the Gp gives me codeine and I use ibruleve 10% rubbed back and front it helps a little. Hope she's sorted soon. 😊

I damaged a muscle from coughing and the pain lasted many months after the illness. I couldn't lie down and my GP prescribed codeine in the end. Took it almost a year to get better. I had to sleep in a chair for months. But I did have a scan to check for anything else. Massage was very helpful as the muscles would often spasm.

Any severe pain should be followed through to rule out usual suspects. Once this has been done you could arrange to see a physiotherapist who are excellent with muscoloskeletal issues.
