I have now had both letters concerning Covid19 and I have registered my situation with the gov letter, that is although I am ok at the moment, I do not need help, but from past admissions to hospital I know if I did get the virus it would be goodbye for me, apart from asthma I also have chronic obstructive airway disease and I cannot have my appendix out ,and five times now I have been told in hospital that should I need resuscitating it would not be able to be done. My husband and son have had to go through the end of life talk each time. I am 75 and not in great health at best of times.
Got both letters.: I have now had both... - Asthma Community ...
Got both letters.
Hi, I’m new here but I saw your post and really feel for you. It is very scary when you read all the bad stuff online but it’s really not a sure thing that you would get a bad dose of coronavirus. I’m currently isolating with symptoms and have been told by both my GP and 111 that it’s likely I have the virus. I’m not as ill as you by any means but I have severe asthma and was in hospital with pneumonia last year for 3 weeks. I’ve had ‘mild’ symptoms with a cough, sore throat, headaches and tight chest/hoarse voice/some breathlessness and a slight temperature. But throughout my peak flow & pulse ox has barely been affected! I’m now coming up to the dreaded day 5 and am anxious but my asthma continues to be fine and hopefully I will be too. All I’m saying is that you just never know when it will be ‘your time’ - or not - and there are an awful lot more people getting this virus mildly than there are getting it badly...even when they have existing conditions 😁
Thank you for your reply, although I have been through a lot I am still hoping that I do not get the virus, but the fact is that having had pneumonia with sepsis a couple of times and not being able to be treated in the normal way, I have also had trouble during emergency operations when the have not been able to get an airway in and it gets awkward for the doctors to treat me. I also have trouble with my veins collapsing after two days on a catheter because of long term blood samples being taken, and my skin very thin.
I do hope I have not frightend you, and I hope that you are soon back to your old self.
Not at all! (You didn’t frighten me!!) I understand your anxiety - it must be very difficult to have been through so much and I do really hope you don’t get the virus too... I just wanted to try & put your mind at rest that it doesn’t have to be really bad and that just cos we have asthma (&/or other things!) doesn’t guarantee that we’ll get it badly. I know I’m anxious today because I know the second week can be bad but I also know of other people with asthma who’ve had it mildly too - so I’m fine now & just keeping my fingers crossed! Hope you get through this ok too...
All the best,
Cally
