Xolair (short term side effects)

Hi all.

I received my first dose of Xolair on Thursday but notice that from Saturday, I have been rather breathless (as if I’m brewing a chest infection). This symptom is common from me but that, plus a heavy chest is getting on my nerves now and I’ve reached my amber zone of my asthma plan- started my rescue pred today.

I know that side effects are possible with all drugs...I’m wondering whether the breathlessness is a side effect or whether it’s a flare? I generally feel fine, apart from a experiencing random flushes and getting the sweats which I think are because of the Xolair.

Definitely talk to your doctor about it. Everyone has different reactions to Xolair.

The very first time I had it, I didn't sleep well for a few days (histamines play an importnant role in the sleep cycle) but I've have had few or no side effects since.

It took six months to kick in for me so just be patient. I had several bad flares since being on it but have slowly improved.

Are you allergic to pollen? My asthma has worsened a lot in the last ten days as the trees begin to pollinate :/

Take good care, I know how awful flares and pred courses are. Sending a hug.

Thank you for sharing.

Yes, I’m highly allergic to pollen (this allergy was the driving factor for Xolair) and am also starting to slowly dread the anticipation that comes with the beginning of spring...sigh! Sorry to hear that your asthma has worsened lately :(

I think I’m going to visit my GP tomorrow. My breathlessness has gotten worse today and the sweats are coming more frequently- I’m just hoping it isn’t a chest infection now.

It’s lovely to hear that you (eventually) found relief from Xolair. My short term goal/Hope is that this summer, unlike previous that have left me housebound, I will be able to enjoy myself a little and get out a bit more 🤗

Hi, I was just searching for side effects of Xolair and came across your old post.

I’ve just had my second injection Friday and have felt tight chested and a little short of breath. I was feeling absolutely fine before the injection so I’m thinking could it be a side effect as I experienced this with the first dose too.

I notice your doing well with your treatment now, did your side effects subside in time?

Hey. Yes, my sides effects are non-existent now and the treatment is working so well. The best I’ve felt in 2 years. After my 3rd dose, I had a bad couple of weeks but that’s all but a distant memory now. Xolair has really changed my life 😁

How are you feeling in general? Do you think it’s working?

That’s great to hear your past the side effects and it’s working so well for you.

I had a chest infection about Mid May, antibiotics and back up to 40mg pred. This was just before starting Xolair and it probably left me weaker than what i would usually feel. My maintenance dose is 10mg pred but I’m still tappering down and I’m at 20mg now.

I was feeling good before my 2nd injection. Tapering down 5mg every 5days..but now I feel like I’m stuck with this feeling of tightness and SOB that’s only occurred after my injection.

Thinking I might stay on 20mg for a little longer to help instead of feeling worse.

I’ve read that Xolair does take a good few months before some people feel any benefits from it. I think I’ve just been very lucky that it started working so quickly for me. I hope you feel some benefits and relief from it soon 🙏🏽

I’ll be sticking with it but was just curious to see how people went with the side effects. Fingers crossed it will pass in a few days🤞

I feel like it’s had a little benefit as I’ve tapered down quite quickly on pred and it usually takes me some time..so that’s a positive🙌

That’s super positive for sure, more so as most asthmatics know how difficult it can be so get even a fractional amount of relief. When I reported my side effects to my asthma nurse, she was concerned that it was more of an allergic response to Xolair that I was experiencing at the time. One day all symptoms/side effects/reactions just disappeared and haven’t come back

It’s so good of you to share..and reassuring that people have been through some sort of experience..weather it be the same or not.

I really hoping it works for me..and yes living with asthma and having a fraction of relief is a positive I will take..

Stay well and safe..and enjoy the outdoors when possible x
