Trying to figure this out?

Hi. Ive had allergic asthma for years but careful had no attacks for years. Last year moved into house with mold & got diagnosed with severe asthma. Taking preventers works beautifully! Until last week when I got a face full of mens deoderant. Huge accute attack, saved by my GP, additional attack next day, saved by diff GP (I live next to med centre) Was asked if I had a cold. Had nothing at all, however, I week later after 5 days steroids, nebulising & increasing preventors. I now have a streaming head cold. Horrible headache, temp and my eyes feel yucky. Is this what happens after an acute attack or it just bad luck? Thank you.

Bad luck from the sounds of it. Colds are usually a big triggers for asthmatics, then with ‘trigger Jenga’ what would usually be a small issue explodes. So your doc may have sorted initial cold symptoms or they may have been aware of this link.

Quick question... are you under a hosp consultant for your asthma?

I hope that helps

Hi Emma, thank you for replying! X Not yet, I have a practice nurse who is an ashthma specialist. I got diagnosed a year ago, got put on Clinel & symtoms went. It was an allergic reaction last week, its the first one Ive had since dx. Felt battered but no cold symptoms till a few days after... Now Im almost a full blown snotty nosed person! Not sure if its a cold or just what happens after an acute (or 2!) Episode? X

I can give you my personal experience in that after what must be 100+ attacks of varying severity’s (severe to life threatening) in the last few years the only times I get cold like symptoms is when I have a virus/chest/sinus infection. Allergy wise I’m snotty/itchy/swollen during the attack and maybe for a day or so after (depending on how quickly I can get on top of the allergy) but that will settle before the pred increase gets reduced (I’m on maintenance 😅).

Of course everyone is different - I have a friend who is fine when with cold but massively flares and another who flares before the cold hits (which to me you sound like 😅), whereas I typical flare when I actually have the cold 😅.

Hope that helps anyway. And if you’re concerned book you see your AN ASAP

Hi water_juggler. I've not experienced cold symptoms after an asthma attack. Sounds like a coincidence given the time of year.

Best see GP as this may set your asthma off again especially so soon after an asthma attack.

When I get a cold I take high dose Vit C, gargle for any sore throat and use Beconase to clear sinuses. All to try and avoid it settling on the chest. Talk to GP about Beconase, mine prescribes mine but you can now buy it over the counter. But best to clear it with GP first.

Hope you feel much better soon.
